About The Position

The VOC Therapist works in partnership with families, individuals, inter-Tribal departments, schools, and agencies to provide team-oriented “wrap around” services for victims and survivors of crime. This role involves providing direct outpatient mental health therapy, collaborating with various Tribal and regional agencies for service coordination, and conducting mental health assessments and developing treatment plans. The therapist will also give direction to the treatment team, coordinate community training and prevention activities related to mental health issues specific to exposure and trauma as a victim/survivor of a crime, and maintain client and program records in accordance with Kalispel Tribe of Indians, Indian Health Services, Federal government, and Washington State professional standards. The position requires travel for crisis issues or assessments and may involve testifying as an expert in Indian Child Welfare (ICW) and State cases. The therapist will also work closely with inter-Tribal departments to provide education and maintain records and create reports to sustain grant and program funding. This role is integral to the Kalispel Tribal Court, Kalispel Tribe Victim Assistance Services, and supervisory behavioral health programs, offering a range of services including child, youth, and adult mental health counseling, outreach, intervention, mental health assessments, screens, evaluations, treatment planning, individual and family counseling, case management, aftercare services, and information and referral.

Requirements

  • Experience with utilizing the DSM IV-TR and the Multi Axis diagnostic system
  • Master’s degree in human services, psychology, social work, individual and family trauma counseling or field directly related to victim’s exposure to a crime
  • Prior experience providing direct service to emotionally and/or behaviorally disturbed victims
  • 5 years of professional experience and competency in providing direct mental health counseling services to victims of a crime and their families
  • Education and specialization specific to therapy involving trauma and victimization
  • License from the Washington State Department of Health as a LICSW, MHP, LMFT, Psychologist or other counseling field related to providing mental health therapy to children and adults
  • Have or be able to obtain HIV Aids Training
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification (or be able to obtain)
  • Know and practice all HIPA laws and policies
  • Able to pass a background check
  • Sign a statement of confidentiality
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Reliable transportation
  • Able to travel between Airway Heights, Spokane, Cusick and Ione, WA
  • Able to pass a Child Abuse and Neglect (CAN) background check

Responsibilities

  • Works in partnership with families, individuals, inter-Tribal departments, schools and agencies to provide team oriented “wrap around” services for victims and survivors as victims of a crime
  • Provide direct outpatient mental health therapy for victims and survivors of a crime(s)
  • Work collaboratively with the Kalispel Tribe Victim Assistance Services program, Cusick School District, Camas Early Learning Center and other Tribal Community service programs and other regional agencies to ensure the coordination of victim services
  • Provide mental health assessments and develop treatment plans in partnership with families and other team members
  • Give direction to the entire treatment team and ensure the implementation of therapeutic activities
  • Coordinate and assist in providing the community with training and prevention activities designed to educate the community on mental health issues specific to exposure and trauma as a victim/survivor of a crime
  • Maintain client records, program records and reporting in accordance with the Kalispel Tribe of Indians, Indian Health Services, the Federal government, and Washington State professional standards
  • Travel as necessary to address crisis issues or provided assessments as needed
  • Testify as an expert in Indian Child Welfare (ICW) and State cases
  • Work closely with inter-Tribal departments to provide education for the department
  • Maintain records and create reports as needed to sustain grant and program funding
  • Work collaboratively with staff, colleagues, the Tribal and local court systems, and all other agencies that provide services to the Kalispel Community, as well as the community at large to ensure the coordination of victim services treatment
  • Attend training as necessary to maintain certification
  • Additional duties as assigned
  • Incorporate child, youth and adult mental health counseling, outreach, intervention, mental health assessments, screens, evaluations, treatment planning, individual and family counseling, case management, aftercare services, and information and referral within the Kalispel Tribal Court, Kalispel Tribe Victim Assistance Services and a supervisory behavioral health programs
