About The Position

The Verification of Benefits (VOB) Specialist is responsible for ensuring patients healthcare benefits cover required procedures for Stratus. Responsible for ongoing communication with physician offices, patients and insurance companies. Also responsible for providing education to physicians and patients regarding ambulatory EEG.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • One year of previous verification experience
  • Previous experience in using an EMR system
  • Experience in dealing with third party payor sources
  • Knowledge of navigating insurance processes, and interpretation of EOB
  • Ability to communicate effectively with referral sources, staff, patients and insurance companies
  • Computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong written and oral communications skills
  • Ability to multi-task and be highly organized
  • Able to work independently, with minimal supervision
  • Able to sit for extended periods of time
  • Repetitive use of fingers and hands
  • Talking and hearing
  • Reaching with hands and arms
  • Clarity of vision at 20 feet or less
  • Data entry
  • Read, evaluate and interpret data
  • Perform mathematical functions

Responsibilities

  • Verify eligibility and benefits on all patient referrals
  • Obtain verbal and written authorizations for planned medical treatment from appropriate source
  • Ensure all referrals are received and necessary requirements are met for all required procedures
  • Validate insurance information accuracy, completeness, resolving discrepancies as needed
  • Coordinate with referring offices as necessary for complete patient information
  • Communicate any and all financial responsibilities and additional information necessary for processing insurance to the patient
  • Perform high volume of outbound calls to physicians, insurance companies and patients to ensure alignment
  • Provide education to physicians and patients regarding ambulatory EEGs
  • Work with worker compensation case managers to assist with verifying benefits eligibility
  • Handle Single Case Agreements to ensure required information is obtained
  • Adhere to HIPAA regulations, Company Confidentiality and Code of Conduct
  • Perform other duties as assigned
