About The Position

The visual arts teacher is responsible for providing the highest quality experience and training for all students. In addition to training in techniques and skills in the visual arts classes, the teacher also collaborates with academic faculty in creative instruction. This includes teacher-led classroom instruction providing students with the opportunity to think critically about their own artwork, artwork of peers, and historically significant works of art. Working with other faculty and administration, the teacher will support the school's mission through planning exhibitions and curriculum development in alignment with Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and the National Core Arts Standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university required
  • Valid Texas teaching certification or highly qualified designation with endorsements for subject/level assigned preferred
  • Three years’ experience teaching Visual Arts preferred
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Ability to carry up to 25 lbs.
  • Valid driver license

Nice To Haves

  • Concentration in Visual Arts preferred
  • Arts background preferred
  • Proven experience collaborating with others to develop interdisciplinary academic products/classroom activities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily instruction for visual arts classes
  • Create and implement effective lesson plans that promote the highest levels of artistic scholarship, problem solving, and creative expression; prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in individual student learning
  • Endeavor to create a learning environment that integrates student’s artistic abilities with their academic studies
  • Collaborate with special education teachers on student Individual Education Plans to ensure all accommodations are met
  • Evaluate and provide feedback on student progress during instruction
  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles/accomplishments on a regular basis and use results to plan instructional activities
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as required
  • Demonstrate a high level of flexibility and willingness to adapt to changes
  • Collaborate with other faculty to create curriculum, develop student relationships and prepare students for further training in academic/artistic settings
  • Attend staff meetings and professional development workshops as required
  • Create and maintain positive communication with administration, staff, faculty, students, and parents
  • Supervise and manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and Student Handbook
  • Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures
  • Comply with Fort Worth Academy of Fine Arts Personnel Handbook
  • Promote FWAFA in a positive manner within the school and community
  • Compile and accurately maintain reports, records, and other documentation required
  • Perform other duties as required
