About The Position

The AVN Hospice Internship provides students with a comprehensive, hands‑on learning experience across the full continuum of hospice care. Interns gain meaningful exposure by shadowing an interdisciplinary team—including our Hospice Medical Director, Registered Nurses, Medical Social Workers, Chaplain, Bereavement Coordinator, and Volunteer staff. Students also participate in weekly Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) meetings to observe collaborative, patient‑centered care in action.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled in a full-time accredited public or private College/University
  • Be in good academic standing
  • Work 37.5 hours per week and commit to a minimum of 375 hours for the duration of the internship
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen or national, asylee, refugee, or lawful permanent resident
  • Extremely organized
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Understand basic clinical knowledge/nursing
  • Curious and willing to learn
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment

Responsibilities

  • Shadow clinical and non‑clinical members of the hospice interdisciplinary team across hospitals, patient homes, and nursing facilities.
  • Receive Epic training and practice basic documentation skills under staff guidance.
  • Support day‑to‑day operations by assisting with administrative tasks, phone calls, and data entry.
  • Collaborate with team members to learn about care planning, bereavement support, and communication with patients and families.
  • Participate in Camp Clover, the Children’s Grief and Bereavement Camp, by assisting with registration, logistics, volunteer coordination, and materials preparation.
  • Serve as a camp counselor at Camp Clover, fully engaging in activities and providing support to grieving children.
