The Urban and Environmental Studies Department at Loyola Marymount University invites applications for a one-year visiting assistant professor position in urban planning or urban geography, beginning fall 2026. The successful candidate will teach upper-division courses in urban planning as well as additional courses in urban studies and geography, depending on departmental needs and the candidate’s expertise. We seek a candidate with a strong background in urban planning who is also able to engage broader questions in urban studies and geography. Candidates whose teaching and research contribute to one or more of the department’s areas of emphasis – including sustainable cities; the intersections of planning with historical disparities and environmental justice; urban systems and processes in the Global South; and/or metropolitan Los Angeles – are especially encouraged to apply. A Ph.D. is required; however, ABD applicants who anticipate completion of the doctorate by fall 2026 will be considered.
