The School of Music at Texas A&M University–Kingsville invites applications for a one‑year Visiting Assistant Professor who will serve as Director of Choral Activities for the 2026–2027 academic year. The successful candidate will provide artistic leadership for the choral program, collaborate closely with conducting and vocal faculty, and contribute to the School of Music’s mission of excellence in performance, education, and community engagement

Requirements

  • Education – Graduate degree in Choral Conducting
  • Experience – Demonstrated record of successful university-level and/or high-level high school choral teaching experience required.
  • Strong foundation in choral pedagogy and teaching methodologies.
  • Knowledge of contemporary practices in teaching choral conducting.
  • Skill in teaching secondary choral methods
  • Comprehensive knowledge of choral literature, including octavos and large choral works.
  • Excellent organizational and record‑keeping skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills with a strong commitment to student success and retention.
  • Physical Requirements
  • Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving and/or flying on commercial airlines
  • Some lifting/carrying of classroom/presentation materials, i.e. ability to lift, carry, load or unload up to 25 lbs. of instructional materials
  • This position is security sensitive
  • This position will require export-control authorization prior to starting employment.
  • This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules and procedures
  • All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and University safety requirements

Responsibilities

  • Teaching
  • Mentor and advise students regarding performance development and professional goals.
  • Direct Concert Choir and Chamber Singers.
  • Teach undergraduate choral conducting.
  • Teach secondary choral methods.
  • Teach additional courses as needed.
  • Perform additional instructional or service duties as assigned.
  • Maintain scheduled Student Success hours in accordance with university policies.
