About The Position

The Department of Philosophy at The Ohio State University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor appointment in the History of Philosophy for the 2026-2027 academic year. The appointed individual will conduct philosophical research, teach at all levels of the undergraduate Philosophy curriculum, and participate in the cooperative administration of the department. This appointment is for a one-year term, beginning August 15, 2026, but with the possibility of renewal for an additional year, subject to funds and need for instruction.
Area of Specialization: Ancient Philosophy or Medieval Philosophy
Area of Competence: Open

Requirements

• The successful applicant must have a PhD in Philosophy, or a related field, in hand by the start of this appointment on August 15, 2026.
• Prior teaching experience at the college level is required.
• Application materials must include a cover letter, CV, writing sample, and three letters of recommendation.
• Cover letter: 1-2 pages, which should include a brief summary of your academic background and why you are interested in this opportunity

• Philosophy writing sample (no more than 15,000 words)
• Three letters of recommendation
