About The Position

The Victim/ Witness Coordinator performs professional work assisting victims and witnesses in criminal court cases, and coordinating the Victim Witness Program for the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation.

Requirements

  • This position typically requires an Associate’s Degree in a related field; AND 48 months paid experience demonstrating the ability to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
  • Requires knowledge of or an openness to learn about the Colville Tribes culture, family dynamics, community dynamics, and the impact domestic violence has had in Indian Country.
  • Requires knowledge of the Colville Tribes Law and Order Code, Washington State Crime Victim’s Compensation Act, and the Violence Against Women Act.
  • Requires knowledge of the various DV/SA service providers available to victims.
  • Requires knowledge of Tribal Court procedures and legal terminology.
  • Requires knowledge of protection orders, how to obtain one and when they apply to a protected person.
  • Requires knowledge of Full, Faith and Credit.
  • Requires knowledge, skills, and ability in the use of a computer, telephone, facsimile.
  • Requires knowledge, sensitivity, and experience with issues regarding domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking and other issues related to victimization.
  • Requires knowledge and ability to work with victims who have experienced a traumatic event, and/ or who may suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
  • Requires ability to assist in the preparation of legal documents, such as Temporary Restraining Orders, Protection Orders, NO-Contact Orders, subpoenas, etc.
  • Requires ability to articulate self in a clear and concise manner both orally and in written form.
  • Requires ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with law enforcement, prosecutors, defense counsel, courts, Advocates, Tribal and State victim service providers and the community.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with persons of different cultures, ethnicities, and socio-economic status and variety of personnel in varying positions both internal and external, treating all individuals with patience, sensitivity, respect, and dignity.
  • Requires ability to openly communicate with supervisor in regards to the status of personal well-being, due to the sensitive nature of the cases being handled.
  • Requires ability to manage a large caseload.
  • Requires ability to work with a high level of integrity and work ethic.
  • Requires to work with other courts, law enforcement, legal offices, and the public.
  • Requires ability to plan, organize and prioritize work in order to meet schedules and timelines.
  • Requires ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Requires ability to work as a contributing member of a team, work productively and cooperatively.
  • Requires the ability to use a personal computer to produce correspondence and reports, must be able to type and use a keyboard accurately.
  • Requires the ability to work in a high stress environment and multi-task on a daily basis.
  • Requires the ability to uphold the highest level of confidentiality throughout employment and maintain confidentiality thereafter leaving the position, and willing to sign a confidentiality agreement.
  • Requires ability to handle stress and make sound decisions.
  • Requires ability to function indoors in an office environment engaged in work of primarily a sedentary nature.
  • Requires sufficient ambulatory ability to walk to project locations, to stand for extended periods of time, and to bend and stoop for limited periods of time.
  • Requires sufficient arm-hand-eye coordination to operate a computer keyboard and pointing devises at a proficient level.
  • Requires sufficient visual acuity to read technical documents and instructions.
  • Requires the ability to lift, push, and pull objects of medium weight (less than 50 lbs.) on an occasional basis.
  • Requires the ability to grasp, reach, push, and pull and move light weight work materials and supplies.
  • Requires sufficient arm, hand, finger dexterity to use a personal computer keyboard, multimedia, and other office equipment.
  • Requires the ability to sit for prolonged periods of times as required by the position.
  • Requires the ability to use hearing and speech to make presentations to large audiences and carry on conversations over the phone and in person.
  • Requires the ability to work a non-standard schedule.
  • Requires the ability to drive in adverse weather conditions.
  • Must submit to and successfully clear an extensive criminal background inquiry with a history of no felony or misdemeanor convictions and maintain clearance throughout employment.
  • Work history must reflect above average attendance.
  • Must provide a completed application, resume’ and three (3) professional references.
  • Must notify immediate supervisor of any involvement with law enforcement, which is not work related within 12 hours.
