General Description We’re seeking a senior leader to own services execution across a diverse project and services portfolio—capital projects, staff augmentation, site engineering, service contracts, frontline support, break/fix, and small service engagements—spanning both industrial (process) automation and facility/building automation (BAS/BMS). This is a manager-of-managers role responsible for resource and capacity planning across multi-site teams, ensuring on-time, on-budget, high-quality delivery while driving profitability, growth, and customer satisfaction. The role reports to an executive leader today and is structured for future executive potential. Oversight Multi-disciplinary services teams (project managers, engineering managers, tech leads, field service leaders) delivering PLC/SCADA/DCS solutions; adjacent Level 3+ capabilities (MES, data analytics, IT/OT) and facility/building automation (BAS/BMS—HVAC controls, energy management, and related systems) in partnership with specialized teams. Portfolio governance across large and small engagements with stage-gate rigor, risk management, and standardized delivery practices for both process control and facility systems. Centralized planning & staffing (skills matrix, demand/supply forecasting, subcontractor strategy) to optimize utilization and cycle times across process and facility services. Enable and drive resource sharing across teams to maximize both resource development and utilization. Customer experience programs that raise NPS/CSAT, improve responsiveness, and strengthen long-term relationships.

Requirements

  • 10+ years in industrial automation services with 5+ years leading leaders (managers, PM managers, or consultants) across multi-project portfolios.
  • Experience navigating teams through technological change and innovation, balancing current services engagements with the need to evolve to where the business is heading.
  • Demonstrated success collaborating with and supporting sales and marketing to support business growth.
  • Familiarity with PLC, SCADA, and DCS environments (architecture, commissioning, operations) and exposure to facility/building automation (BAS/BMS), enabling credible leadership of mixed delivery teams.
  • Demonstrated success running project and services businesses (projects, staff aug, service contracts, break/fix/frontline support, small jobs) with measurable gains in profitability, growth, and customer outcomes.
  • Proven resource/capacity planning at scale: workforce modeling, utilization optimization, and multi-site scheduling.
  • Strong commercial acumen: SOWs/MSAs, change orders, risk/compliance, revenue recognition basics, and subcontractor management.
  • Excellent communication with executives and customers; adept at simplifying complexity and driving action.
  • Hybrid based in Charlotte or Durham, NC; regional travel to customer sites and REM locations (estimated 20-30%, variable by portfolio).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience leading or partnering on Level 3+ initiatives (MES, data analytics, IT/OT convergence) and BAS/BMS modernization (e.g., integrating HVAC/energy management data with enterprise analytics).
  • Experience with related services such as operator training, simulation, alarm management, and advanced process control.
  • Background with regulated industries (Life Sciences, PSM) and associated quality/compliance expectations.
  • Familiarity with Emerson ecosystems and the Emerson Impact Partner network.
  • Certifications: PMP/PMI-ACP, Six Sigma/Lean, CMRP, or comparable.

Responsibilities

  • Own P&L for services execution: revenue realization, gross margin, backlog conversion, and cash (billing/milestones).
  • Drive delivery excellence: schedule adherence, change control, quality management, safety, and lessons-learned closeout across industrial and facility portfolios.
  • Institutionalize resource planning: multi-horizon capacity plans, skills roadmaps, succession pipelines, and vendor/partner augmentation.
  • Elevate people leaders: hire, coach, and performance-manage managers; set clear operating mechanisms (cadence, KPIs, MBR/QBRs).
  • Standardize methods & tools: playbooks, estimating models, Work Breakdown Structures, and PM/field service toolsets applicable to both process automation and building automation engagements.
  • Partner across REM: align with Sales on scoping and handoff; with Finance on forecasting; with Product/Engineering on standards; and with HSE on safety culture.
  • Grow the business: Identify upsell/cross-sell opportunities (e.g., lifecycle services, upgrades, energy optimization)
  • Shape services offerings
  • Support strategic accounts, pursuits, and sales support activities
  • Drive the generation of customer success stories and support marketing efforts
  • Evolve service offerings to meet changing customer and technology needs
