About The Position

The Vice President of Technology provides strategic and operational leadership for the organization’s technology function, including IT and Broadcast Engineering. This role is responsible for managing and developing technology teams; ensuring systems reliability, security, and innovation; working collaboratively and effectively across the organization; and aligning technology initiatives with organizational goals. The VP of Technology fosters a collaborative, high-performing culture while delivering scalable, secure, and effective technology solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science and/or related technical degree.
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership in technology, broadcast engineering, media technology, or IT infrastructure.
  • Experience managing complex technology ecosystems that include broadcast and digital media systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams and large-scale technology initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of cloud computing, networking, cybersecurity, and enterprise systems.
  • Knowledge of new and traditional television broadcast equipment and systems (master control, newsroom automation, routers, asset management, non‑linear editing, networked storage).
  • Knowledge of IT networks, enterprise software platforms, switches, cloud technologies, and virtual machines.
  • Familiarity with FCC regulations and broadcast operations.
  • Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to think and act strategically and proactively.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a long-term technology strategy aligned with mission and growth objectives.
  • Serve as a member of the Leadership Team, working collaboratively across the organization to ensure that technology systems support business needs, mission, and strategic plan.
  • Oversee all aspects of technology operations, including IT infrastructure, network, security systems, master control, transmission, and production technology infrastructure.
  • Provide high-level, forward-thinking vision about emerging technologies, including AI.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with strategic priorities.
  • Serve as technology lead and staff liaison to PBS system and other national organizations.
  • Develop and monitor technology budgets and develop and manage yearly a capital expenditures budget and three-year capital forecast.
  • Partner with executive leadership to identify opportunities where technology can improve operations, products, and audience or customer experiences.
  • Develop technological workflows in collaboration with department heads to ensure efficient, high quality, and cost-effective outcomes for broadcast and digital audio, video, and streaming.
  • Translate enterprise technology priorities clearly with success metrics, milestones and delivery plans.
  • Support studio, field production, and post-production technology environments.
  • Partner with content, production, and marketing to enable innovative storytelling and audience engagement.
  • Support technology solutions for community outreach, educational services, and events.
  • Work closely with finance on procurement and asset lifecycle management.
  • Engage in a productive relationship with union stewards, positively resolving issues and documenting outcomes.
  • Successfully navigate union requirements per the Collective Bargaining Agreement and in coordination with General Counsel and VP HR.
  • Serve as lead advisor on enterprise risk management for technology and broadcast operations.
  • Establish strong cybersecurity practices, data protection standards, and risk management programs.
  • Maintain safety and security of TPT’s digital assets.
  • Ensure business continuity planning and technology resilience.
  • Ensure compliance with Federal Communications Commission (FCC)regulations and other regulatory requirements, as well as PBS membership requirements.
  • Maintain high availability and reliability of broadcast systems, including redundancy and disaster recovery.
  • Implement best practices for cybersecurity, data governance, and system resilience.
  • Codify and implement technical policies and procedures, assuring a safe and efficient environment for the station and its employees in compliance with all laws and risk management policies.
  • Ensure timely technology operations response and coverage 24 x 7, 365 days a year.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary technology team.
  • Establish clear goals, performance expectations, and professional development plans for team members.
  • Build a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee recruitment, retention, and succession planning for technology staff.
  • Promote cross-department collaboration to ensure technology supports organizational priorities.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
