About The Position

Boston Engineering seeks a driven, hands-on sales and marketing leader to grow the firm’s commercial (non-government, non-defense) engineering consulting business. This individual will be responsible for developing and executing a high-performance sales strategy targeting markets such as medical devices, diagnostics, robotics, industrial automation, and other innovation-driven sectors. The ideal candidate combines strategic thinking with the ability to execute personally and to lead a team. This role will oversee both sales and marketing functions — building pipeline, closing deals, shaping messaging, and ultimately driving growth. Requirements

  • 10+ years of sales and/or business development experience, including 5+ years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record of selling engineering consulting, product development, or similar technical services to commercial clients.
  • Experience building and managing sales teams in a professional services or consulting environment.
  • Strong understanding of target markets: medtech, diagnostics, robotics, industrial automation, etc.
  • Skilled in the full sales lifecycle — from lead generation through closing and account management.
  • Proficient with CRM systems and sales reporting tools.
  • Exceptional communication, leadership, and negotiation skills.
  • Bachelor's degree required; technical or engineering background preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all sales efforts targeting commercial markets (excluding government and defense).
  • Personally engage in high-value sales pursuits; own key client relationships.
  • Build, develop, and manage a high-performing sales team.
  • Establish and manage sales processes, KPIs, reporting, and forecasting.
  • Set and meet revenue targets through disciplined pipeline management.
  • Identify and prioritize target industry sectors and client segments.
  • Develop and execute go-to-market strategies that align with company capabilities.
  • Monitor competitive landscape, industry trends, and client needs to shape offerings.
  • Oversee brand positioning, messaging, and campaigns to support business development.
  • Align marketing content and initiatives with sales objectives.
  • Ensure consistent client-facing communications across channels (website, proposals, presentations, etc.).
  • Work closely with engineering, project management, and executive leadership to align technical offerings with client needs.
  • Support proposal development, including scope definition and pricing strategy.
  • Champion a customer-centric, solutions-focused approach across the organization.
