About The Position

The Vice President of Operations is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the campus’ levels of care integration and operations. The incumbent administers and coordinates the leadership and operations to ensure proper management and effective operation of the delivery of patient care services in accordance with behavioral health standards and departmental policies and procedures. Responsibility involves coordinating ancillary, support, and community services as well as direct patient care services. Leadership is exercised over several professional, leader, technical and/or clerical staff. Performs related work as required. In addition to operational leadership responsibilities, the Vice President of Operations provides executive oversight of nursing services across the campus, including inpatient, residential, and PHP/IOP programs. In partnership with the system Chief Nursing Officer, the VP holds accountability for the 24/7 delivery of safe, high-quality nursing care, ensuring regulatory compliance, adherence to professional nursing standards, and alignment with organizational policies and best practices. This role provides leadership, guidance, and support to nursing leaders and interdisciplinary teams, oversees staffing and scheduling structures to ensure appropriate coverage, and leads initiatives related to patient safety, quality improvement, staff development, and incident management. The VP fosters a culture of compassion, accountability, and continuous improvement while ensuring nursing operations effectively support clinical outcomes, staff engagement, and overall campus performance.

Requirements

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of behavioral health hospital administration.
  • Strong knowledge in content relevant to hospital care.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the development, coordination, and delivery of medical services.
  • Strong knowledge of improvement methods in a clinical setting.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the regulations and codes of the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Behavioral Health facilities and the residing states’ State Department of Health requirements.
  • Thorough knowledge of administrative reporting and control procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of acceptable business practices in dealing with contract agencies; thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of administrative supervision and decision-making thorough knowledge of risk management issues in a hospital or health delivery setting.
  • Experienced and skilled at managing complex, revenue-generating projects that span across multiple departments (may have multiple geographic settings).
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of professionals at all levels within the organization as well as externally with associated, current partners, and potential partners.
  • Ability to delegate responsibility effectively.

  • Master's or PhD Degree in Hospital, Public or Business Administration and 10 years healthcare experience required with 5 years in behavioral health strongly preferred or Bachelor's Degree in a business or clinical discipline and fifteen (15) years’ experience in management or administrative capacity in a hospital, behavioral healthcare or health care facility/agency, five years of which was management or administration of the delivery of clinical or technical services to patients, and two of which must have been at a supervisory level.
  • Five (5) years behavioral health care management and operational experience with a focus on improving the quality and safety of care required.
  • Two years (2) strategic experience within a hospital setting, hospital system, or association required.
  • Responsible for helping organizations achieve financial goals and objectives and increase operating performance.
  • Prepares budgets, creates businesses plans, and solves internal issues as they arise.
  • Be flexible, to adjust to changing conditions and to effectively address the challenges of the position.
  • Must be able to demonstrate experience and skills in motivation of employees for peak performance and creative thinking regarding departmental operations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to effectively use Microsoft® Office Suite programs, Power BI and related tools in performing work assignments.
  • Position requires walking, sitting, and standing and limited stair climbing.
  • Lifting is moderate; must be capable of lifting a minimum of 20 pounds.
  • Reaching, handling, gasping, and manual dexterity are necessary to operate various pieces of office equipment.
  • Be physically/mentally able to perform job duties as verified by a physical exam by a licensed physician, per post-employment physical.

Responsibilities

  • Campus Services Programming and Integration Maintains total administrative responsibilities for the optimum utilization and effectiveness of all services and programs provided to patients and families.
  • Ensures standards and codes regulating the quality assurance of health care set forth by the various accreditation boards and regulatory agencies are met and maintained.
  • Develops, recommends, and implements changes in overall administrative policies and procedures to effectively carry out inpatient services and system wide initiatives and objectives.
  • Plans, develops, integrates and executes programs and services with medical director(s) for all programs.
  • Evaluates program effectiveness and recommends strategies to ensure that the needs of the identified population are met, and regulatory guidelines adhered to.
  • Accountable for effectively engaging and leading campus teams to meet or exceed key performance indicators for clinical effectiveness and operational and financial efficiency and team satisfaction.
  • Accesses protected health information (PHI) in accordance with departmental assignments and guidelines defining levels of access (i.e. incidental vs. extensive).
  • Has oversight of and ensures all incident investigations, patient complaints or problems are appropriately addressed and resolved within the specified timeframe.
  • Updates SVP immediately of any critical incident, effectively communicates outcome and corrective actions, where applicable.
  • Participates in and supports team during times of announced and unannounced accreditation or regulatory surveys and audits, acts as the liaison with regulatory agencies and Rogers’ compliance department.
  • Learns, participates, and supports team using continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Financial Management Responsible for financial performance and integration of campus operations, including support services.
  • Participates in and supports budgeting process Identify ways to expand revenue and lead new business opportunities, while effectively managing costs.
  • Assure budget expectations for revenues, expenses and EBIDA are developed and met.
  • Meets with inpatient team(s) monthly to review operating and variance reports, leading to continuous improvement in operational efficiencies.
  • Participates in the Administrator On-Call (AOC) rotation, which includes an equal number of holidays.
  • Works effectively and collaboratively with Admissions department leadership and staff to support smooth and timely access to care for patients.
  • Shares accountability for site’s capacity utilization and meeting or exceeding capacity utilization expectations.
  • Works effectively and collaboratively with Vice President of Facilities to ensure safe environment of care.
  • Communicates facility improvements needed.
  • Works to gain agreement for the prioritizing of facilities projects.
  • Shares responsibility and accountability for site’s compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards related to environment of care.
  • Builds partnership and expand relationships with external hospitals, systems, associations, professional societies.
  • Responsible for creating and sustaining supportive, positive professional culture aligned with Rogers values.
  • Effectively uses emotional intelligence and compassion resilience tools, to manage, lead, and develop staff within, a complex, matrixed organization.
  • Builds strong working relationships with other RBH leaders and teams, as well as staff throughout the organization.
  • Work with the Rogers marketing and outreach teams to recommend and drive new and existing business concepts.
  • Experience with vetting and guiding the set-up of new programs, projects, products, grants, and contracts will be necessary.
  • Manage and develop staff: Ensures inpatient units have the staff resources to operate safely and efficiently for optimal patient care.
  • Responsible for physician recruitment and contracting.
  • Ensures physician recruitment and contracting process and timeline are met.
  • Set goals, monitors work, and evaluates results to ensure that departmental and organizational objectives and operating requirements are met and are in line with the needs and mission of the organization.
  • Develops and implements processes and systems that support employee engagement, increase employee satisfaction to develop and retain team.
  • Incorporates compassion resilience tools and techniques with direct staff and within overall facility to maintain a positive atmosphere.
  • Coordinates the activities of hospital staff to ensure continuing efforts towards the accomplishment of organizational goals.
  • Acts as liaison and coordinates all communication with outside agencies, media, and the public.
  • May work alongside community leaders, executive directors, major donors/funders, government officials, and senior staff/board members.
