About The Position

The Vice President of Information Technology (VP of IT) is a senior executive leader responsible for setting the vision, strategy, and execution of all information technology functions at Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee. This role ensures that technology enables and advances the organization’s mission, supports operational excellence, and strengthens collaboration across departments. The VP of IT is expected to be a highly effective communicator, innovator, and people leader who can break down silos, build trust across the organization, and partner closely with executive peers to deliver meaningful, mission-driven outcomes. The VP of IT will promote a positive work environment that celebrates our vision, mission and core values of Teamwork, Respect, Uprightness and Empowerment in every action and interaction with team members, donors, customers, management and persons served.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive IT leadership experience, including responsibility for strategy, people leadership, and enterprise systems.
  • Demonstrated success leading cross-functional initiatives and influencing peers and senior leaders.
  • Experience driving innovation, leading organizational change, and overcoming resistance or silos.
  • Experience with data governance, cybersecurity, and enterprise systems strongly preferred.
  • Experience in nonprofit, retail, human services, or multi-site environments is a plus.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 platform and related tools required.
  • Proven ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.
  • Strategic communicator who builds alignment and trust across the organization.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in nonprofit, retail, human services, or multi-site environments is a plus.
  • Experience with Workday HR Information System is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Vision, Strategy & Innovation Develop, communicate, and execute a clear IT vision and multi-year technology roadmap aligned with organizational strategy and mission impact.
  • Serve as an innovation leader, proactively identifying and implementing technologies that improve efficiency, scalability, and service delivery.
  • Translate organizational and departmental needs into practical, secure, and sustainable technology solutions.
  • Lead change initiatives that modernize systems, processes, and ways of working.
  • Cross-Department Collaboration & Communication Act as a strategic partner to executive leadership and department leaders, ensuring strong alignment between IT and business objectives.
  • Demonstrate exceptional inter- and intra-departmental communication, fostering transparency, trust, and shared accountability.
  • Engage in effective peer-to-peer collaboration to jointly solve problems and advance organizational priorities.
  • Break through organizational, cultural, or operational barriers that could hinder collaboration or progress.
  • Talent, Team & Resource Leadership Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing IT team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure the IT organization has the right structure, skills, and capacity to meet current and future needs.
  • Retain and develop talent with an emphasis on leadership development and succession planning.
  • Oversee the effective use of internal resources and external vendors to maximize value and performance.
  • Data Governance & Information Stewardship Establish and mature a robust data governance framework that promotes data quality, consistency, security, and responsible use.
  • Partner with business leaders to leverage data as a strategic asset for reporting, analytics, and informed decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable data privacy, cybersecurity, and regulatory requirements.
  • Operational Excellence & Risk Management Oversee reliable, secure, and cost-effective IT operations, infrastructure, applications, and support services.
  • Ensure strong cybersecurity posture, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning.
  • Develop and manage the IT budget with fiscal responsibility and alignment to strategic priorities.
  • Establish performance metrics and service standards that drive accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
