About The Position

The Vice President of Communications & Business Strategy plans, develops, and administers all marketing and communications efforts, both internal and external, for the Cooperative and its subsidiaries. This role provides strategic leadership to advance the Cooperative's brand, reputation, and member engagement initiatives in alignment with the Cooperative's mission, vision, and values. In addition, the Vice President partners closely with the CEO and executive leadership team to support business strategy development and execution, organizational growth initiatives, and long-term planning. The position leads and supports high-impact, cross-functional projects and special initiatives on behalf of the CEO, ensuring strategic priorities are effectively communicated, implemented, and aligned across the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Business Administration or related field is required.
  • Requires a minimum of five years of management experience.
  • Outstanding communication skills in all mediums (written, verbal, electronic, social media, etc.).
  • The ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Expert planning, interpersonal, and organizational skills; strong analytical and problem-solving skills required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Adobe Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat) is required.
  • Complete understanding and experience managing a variety of social media platforms in a business capacity, including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.
  • Experience with social media analytics.
  • Must represent the co-op with external organizations, agencies, members, and power supplier in a progressive, positive, and professional manner.
  • Must have ability to consistently meet deadlines.
  • High level of independence and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Required to obtain and maintain a valid Tennessee driver's license.
  • Must live in the SVEC area or be willing to relocate to the SVEC area.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive communications strategy and strategic plan for SVEC and its subsidiaries that reflects cooperative values, supports the Cooperative's mission, advances its vision, and effectively informs and educates members and employees on cooperative initiatives and industry issues.
  • Oversee and coordinate communications messaging across SVEC and its subsidiaries, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and alignment with organizational objectives across publications, local media, website, and social media channels.
  • Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of communication channels across SVEC and its subsidiaries, track and analyze key metrics, and provide recommendations for improvement to enhance efficiency, support cooperative goals, and implement approved enhancements.
  • Regularly communicates division activities to the President/CEO, other Vice Presidents, and Board of Directors.
  • As a senior-level executive, maintains the utmost confidentiality and discretion.
  • Assists the CEO with special projects, generates new ideas, identifies new opportunities for the cooperative, and collaborates with other department leaders and staff to ensure resources are used efficiently and the cooperative goals are being met.
  • Oversees the management and delivery of cooperative member programs, products, and services, including both internal offerings and those developed in partnership with organizations such as TVA, NRECA, TVPPA, TECA, and others, ensuring they meet member needs and support cooperative goals.
  • Responsible for planning, overseeing, and promoting youth programs, including the Youth Leadership Summit, Washington Youth Tour, and 4-H Electric Camp, while cultivating relationships with schools to educate students about SVEC and its subsidiaries' community contributions and to provide information on future career opportunities in the cooperative and energy industry.
  • Lead initiatives to strengthen SVEC and its subsidiaries' presence and reputation within the community by planning, coordinating, and executing civic, educational, and outreach events, fostering partnerships with local organizations, and promoting the Cooperative's core values and commitment to community service.
  • Annually prepares and submits division plan and budget. Monitors department expenditures.
  • Stays informed on NRECA & TECA, industry activities, and participates in programs as directed by the CEO.
  • Serves as company adviser to the board of directors for SVECares and assists with administrative duties.
  • Supervises member service specialist and communications specialist.
  • Cultivates a positive work environment, and encourages team to learn, grow, and work independently but also collaborate as a team.
