About The Position

We are seeking a dynamic fundraising professional with leadership experience and the ability to activate strategy to help us achieve our annual and long-term goals of growing our private sector funding and elevating LMM's presence and brand. The Vice President of Development & Communications has the support of a committed team, including the President & CEO, Board of Directors, senior leaders, department team, staff partners, and volunteers who are brand ambassadors in promoting the mission and forwarding the philanthropic activities of the organization.

Requirements

  • Our ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s degree; Master’s preferred in related field (Nonprofit Management, Business Development, Public Relations, Communications, etc.).
  • At least 7 years of experience in non-profit development and public relations, including supervisory/management experience.
  • Fund-raising experience in annual campaigns, major gifts, planned giving, corporate sponsorships and foundation grants.
  • The ideal candidate is a confident spokesperson, with excellent written and oral communications skills with experience in community engagement, and capable of leading and developing a team to advance the mission and values of LMM.

Nice To Haves

  • Fund raising certification (CFRE) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the strategic, operational and management planning and implementation of the fund development, communications and public relations activities of the organization’s major service areas and administrative projects.
  • Collaborate with the President & CEO, Board of Directors, and senior leadership on developing and stewarding relationships with key LMM audiences, including: individual donors, foundations, corporations, community leaders, partnering organizations, Lutheran affiliates and ecumenical partners.
  • Serve as a primary contact for building and cultivating relationships with major funders and corporate partners.
  • Provide staff leadership for the Board Development Committee and support the CEO’s efforts towards board development, meetings and activities.
  • Plan and execute capital campaigns, in coordination with the executive and Board leadership, special committees, consultants, and development and communications staff.
  • Strengthen the organization’s ability to elevate LMM’s presence in the community by providing resources, knowledge and expertise to enhance communications, public relations and brand management activities.
  • Represent LMM at speaking engagements at various faith-based and community partner engagement events, and other venues as appropriate.
  • Recruit, hire, and supervise department staff; offer appropriate training and development opportunities to engage a high performing team.
  • Optimize and maintain donor management and communication systems to inform data-driven strategies and outcome reporting.
  • Maintain high standards of ethical and professional conduct in terms of privacy of donor, funder and client information, and adhere to confidentiality policies.
