About The Position

The Arizona Humane Society is seeking a talented Veterinary Technician II to join their Sunnyslope Clinic. This role is crucial for keeping pets with their loving families by providing accessible, high-quality veterinary care to those in need. As a community medicine veterinary technician, you will play a critical role in supporting the Arizona Humane Society's Spay/Neuter and Wellness programs, delivering compassionate care to pets. Your responsibilities will encompass assisting veterinarians in all aspects of patient care, from surgical preparation to recovery, ensuring safe and efficient procedures, educating clients, and maintaining a clean, aseptic environment. This fast-paced position demands a positive attitude, strong technical skills, and a commitment to making a meaningful impact in the community. You will be involved in perioperative care for a high volume of patients, including anesthesia monitoring, intubation, catheter placement, administering various medications (IV, IM, SQ), and performing laboratory diagnostics. Additionally, you will maintain accurate medical records, provide client education on vaccines and follow-up care, and ensure adherence to post-operative protocols. Success in this role requires excellent communication, the ability to remain composed in a dynamic environment, and a collaborative mindset to work effectively with veterinarians, staff, and the public while upholding the highest standards of patient care.

Requirements

  • High school diploma OR GED.
  • Two years experience working as a veterinary technician at a full service clinic or hospital.
  • Must be able to assist veterinarians in all aspects of AHS' wellness clinic including managing medical appointments, radiology, ultrasound, surgery, laboratory diagnostics, fluid therapy, urgent care as necessary, the administration of prescribed medications, client education and clinic asepsis.
  • Must assist veterinarians and technicians in the evaluation, surgery, and recovery for patients.
  • Must be able to perform anesthesia, prep, fluid therapy, laboratory procedures, injections, and medication.
  • Proficient in radiology positioning.
  • Proficient with monitoring vital signs of sedated and anesthetized patients in preoperative, operative, and post-operative phases.
  • Proficient in laboratory testing and IDEXX/Antech machines.
  • Ability to intubate animals.
  • Ability to place intravenous catheters.
  • Ability to perform venipuncture.
  • Ability to administer fluids as needed.
