About The Position

Animal Medical Clinic of Vicksburg is a mixed animal practice established in July of 2006, assisting with both small and large animal needs. The new hospital features a larger waiting room, 5 exam rooms, an expanded treatment area, a state-of-the-art Surgical Suite, and an ICU. It also provides more spacious rooms for boarding, including an exercise yard and an indoor large animal treatment area with stalls. The clinic offers a range of services such as preventive care, internal medicine, surgery, dermatology, in-house lab for bloodwork, radiology, and ultrasound. The Kennel Technician is responsible for the comprehensive care, feeding, medicating, and cleaning of patients within the hospital and boarding facility.

Requirements

Knowledge of cleaning and disinfecting methods
Proper methods of animal restraint
Ability to use cleaning materials and equipment with skill and efficiency
Perform moderately heavy physical labor (large dogs, bags of litter, pet foods, etc)
Ability to sympathetically and patiently attend to sick, scared and injured animals
Ability to learn to administer medications and to recognize abnormal conditions
Understand and carry out oral and written directions
Maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of the job

Responsibilities

Care, feeding, medicating, and cleaning of patients in the hospital and boarding facility
Cleaning
Laundry
Bathing animals
Feeding animals
Walking dogs
Medicating patients
Restocking hospital supplies
Helping with post-operative patients
Assisting doctors and assistants with animal restraint and exams
Proper recordkeeping of medications, special foods, appetite, behavior and any issue that may arise while the animal is in our care
Cleaning and sterilizing surgical instruments (may be trained for this)
