About The Position
The Ontario SPCA and Humane Society is a registered charity with nearly 150 years of operation, dedicated to providing care, comfort, and compassion to animals across Ontario. This specific position, a Veterinary Attendant, is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) program. Veterinary Attendants are responsible for the care of animals, including supporting their pre and post-operative needs with compassion. They maintain a healthy environment through routine grooming, housekeeping, and disinfection tasks such as kennel cleaning and laundry. Beyond essential animal care, the role also involves crucial customer service and client administrative duties, which are vital for the clinic's success.
Requirements
- Be aged between 15 and 30 years old on the start date of the job
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN)
- Be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or a person who has been granted refugee status in Canada
Responsibilities
- Support the compassionate pre and post-op requirements of each animal
- Ensure a healthy environment for all residents via routine grooming, housekeeping and disinfection accountabilities such as kennel cleaning and laundry
- Perform customer service and related client administrative duties
- Greet clients and answer general inquiries regarding pre and post-op care
- Provide pre and post op care to the animals in our trust, under the direction of the RVT’s and Veterinarians
- Handle and soothe animals during examinations, treatments, and vaccinations
- Record relevant information about animals, including weight and types of medication given
- Perform general housekeeping and/or disinfection of the clinic including sterilization of hospital/medical equipment, cleaning floors and counter tops, crates etc.
- Conduct animal transfers where appropriate
