This Animal Care Worker (ACW) position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) program, which supports youth aged 15 to 30 by providing paid summer work experience and opportunities to develop job market skills. ACWs are responsible for the daily care of sheltered animals, encompassing feeding, enrichment, exercise, grooming, housekeeping, and disinfection, such as kennel cleaning and laundry. Additionally, customer service and related client administrative duties are crucial to the shelter's operations and the success of this role.

Requirements

  • Be aged between 15 and 30 years old on the start date of the job
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN)
  • Be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or a person who has been granted refugee status in Canada

Responsibilities

  • Performing care and enrichment for our animals including, feeding, exercising, playing and/or other engagement activities
  • Ensuring a healthy environment through general house-keeping, disinfection protocols, laundry duties and kennel cleaning
  • Supporting animal physical health by performing supervised vaccinations, seeking RVT advice and general bathing and grooming duties
  • Animal handling including: lifting, carrying and restraining when necessary
  • Participates in the transfer of animals to vet clinic as required
  • Maintaining client records, recording information and notifying a supervisor of any potential health concerns
  • Immerse self in the culture and goals of the centre/organization by actively promoting the centre via social media channels and participation in a variety of fundraising initiatives
