We are seeking an Internal Medicine Veterinary Assistant to help support and grow our internal medicine service. This role is a steady, skilled presence within the department, supporting patients with complex and chronic medical conditions, empowering clients through clear communication, and collaborating closely with veterinarians and hospital leadership to deliver thorough, evidence-based, and timely care. As part of the internal medicine team, you will contribute to workflow development, department organization, and the continued growth of a cohesive, high-performing internal medicine service.

Requirements

  • Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant.

  • Able to pass the Washington Veterinary Medical Clerk license within 60 days of hire.
  • Basic computer and scheduling software proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Support the setup, organization, and daily operations of the internal medicine service.
  • Assist the Internal Medicine doctor with advanced diagnostics and procedures.
  • Start and maintain accurate patient medical records in Instinct.
  • Perform pre-exams, obtain patient histories, vital signs, diagnostics, and lab samples.
  • Safely restrain patients for exams, diagnostics, and treatments.
  • Perform treatments and administer medication as allowed under the direction and supervision of the veterinarian, following all Washington state laws, safety and handling protocols.
  • Monitor patients during and after treatments and report changes promptly.
  • Prepare and double-check treatment sheets; round with ICU staff as needed.
  • Fill prescriptions and enter and double-check client invoices for accuracy.
  • Provide clear, compassionate client education and support.
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and efficiency within the department
  • Help ensure smooth daily workflow and communication within the team
  • Collaborate with veterinarians, leadership, and cross-functional teams.
  • Participate in required meetings and model Timberline’s PEAK Principles.

  • This position is part-time, working 2 days a week (Thursday and Friday) with the option of working in the ER department for a full-time role.
