About The Position

Under the guidance of the Manager, Veterans Resource Center (VRC), the Veterans Resource Center Supervisor is responsible for performing a wide variety of duties associated with assisting in ensuring the daily operation of the Veterans Resource Center and its programs and activities. Position encompasses a trainee level (Range A) and a fully developed working level (Range B). While the duties performed at both levels will be similar employees possessing little or no experience will be placed in Range A and will function, with closer supervision in a trainee capacity for six to twelve months (depending on job performance). Employees in Range B will be expected to perform with greater independence and under general supervision the full scope of duties encompassed in this job description.

Requirements

  • Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in an applicable field.
  • Specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown below may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Experience Professional full-time experience is not required for consideration.
  • General knowledge of student veteran needs and resources
  • General knowledge of leadership development concepts
  • Ability to instruct, train and supervise the work of student employees
  • Ability to identify, research, and connect with relevant community resources
  • General knowledge of and experience in program planning, implementation, and assessment
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Ability to clearly express ideas and directions verbally and in writing, including attention to composition, punctuation, grammar, and spelling
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, or other email systems
  • General knowledge of effective public speaking and presentation techniques

Nice To Haves

  • One year of professional-level experience in a job-related field preferably working in a cultural center and/or college union, student activities, or student development.

Responsibilities

  • Train, and supervise the work of part-time student assistant employees, including monitoring performance; generating performance evaluations; and administering disciplinary action as needed
  • Supervise day-to-day operation of the Veterans Resource Center including customer service, facility maintenance and technological support
  • Plan, contract, coordinate, implement, and evaluate Veteran Resource Center weekly, monthly, and annual events
  • Perform various administrative assignments including but not limited to scheduling student assistants and monitoring student employee time cards
  • Meet with veteran students to assess concerns, provide resources, and advocate as needed
  • Assist with student veteran needs assessments and reports
  • Assist with the creation and oversight of content development for informational brochures, newsletters, social media posts, webpages, press releases, posters/fliers, and other marketing materials
  • Assist with guest feedback, center data reports, marketing requests, and Veterans Resource Center communication
  • Assist with facilitating educational trainings for campus community including faculty, staff and students on topics related to military culture and supporting student veterans
  • Participate in University Student Union staff meetings, activities, training and development programs, and professional development activities
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
