About The Position

As our Veteran Peer Support Specialist, you will promote the development of wellness self-management, personal recovery, natural supports, coping skills, and self-advocacy skills while building trust and developing face-to-face relationships with the Veteran Population in Cumberland and Harnett Counties. Additionally, the Veteran Certified Peer Support Specialist will attend treatment meetings, and link individuals with community. The objective is to encourage and support the individual's engagement in treatment. Interested but not yet certified? We offer a Peer Support Scholarship Program in which we can assist you in obtaining certification upon hire AND cover the cost! We also provide mileage reimbursement!

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent and be at least 18 years old.
  • Minimum of 1 year working with the adult MH/SA population in a community setting
  • Active Certification in NC as Peer Support Specialist (can obtain upon hire)
  • Certification in CPR, First Aid, Blood borne Pathogens training, and NCI
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of county resources and opportunities
  • Great "people skills" and an ability to make lasting community connections
  • Ability to learn other technological recording methods i.e. EMRs/EHRs
  • Ability to work in a team model that changes regularly as needed
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to frequent change in work flow based on client need and service structure
  • HIPPA and Substance Abuse specific confidentiality and privacy rights

Responsibilities

  • Aid in development of functional skills (managing medication routines, budgeting skills, learning how to access health care, independent daily living skills, etc.)
  • Promote SouthLight at local Veteran identified facilities including but not limited to VA hospitals, DAV facilities, and other community locations.
  • Support individuals by engaging in the Cumberland County Recovery Resource Center from 12-3 on Tuesdays weekly
  • Model recovery values, attitudes, beliefs, and personal action to encourage wellness
  • Promote self-advocacy and empower clients to use their legal rights and access entitlements.
  • Support individuals through navigation and participation in formal treatment services
  • Encourage development of natural supports where possible
  • Maintain and submit required documentation (treatment plans, service notes, required data collection etc.)
  • Recognize and appropriately respond to conditions that constitute an emergency
  • Provide input into the Person-Centered Plan
  • Assist supervisor with timely response to new referrals and tracking contacts with clients
  • Serve as a resource for individuals assigned with regards to community programs, services, and facilities
  • Accompany Director of Operations to community engagement events
