About The Position

Performs duties to support the Veterans Affairs Program. Under supervision, provides assistance to the Veterans Affairs Specialist by processing claims for veteran benefits. May also provide other direct services, such as transportation. MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES This list is intended only to illustrate the various types of work that may be performed. Assists in filing veteran claims for benefits. Assists in organizing veteran events such as dinners, ceremonies and outings. Assists in operating veteran recreation room. Provides administrative services when needed, including correspondence preparation, file preparation, mail distribution, and reception backup. Provides transportation services to clients when needed. Candidates must be willing and able to work irregular hours, as required occasionally Works on other projects as assigned. Because of the Tribe’s commitment to community service and the well being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a high school or equivalent.
  • One (1) year general office/administrative experience.
  • One (1) year customer service experience.
  • Conducting research
  • Reading and oral and written communication
  • Event planning and organization
  • Learning office practices and procedures
  • Operating office equipment
  • Following clearly stated oral and written instructions or procedures
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers and clients as required by work assignments
  • Following-through on assignments as directed.
  • Current and valid Washington State Driver’s License required at time of appointment or at a time set by the Tribe.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with veterans’ programs (health, social services and resources) preferred.
  • Commercial driver’s license preferred.
