About The Position
The Vet Technician plays a critical role in supporting veterinarians by providing high-quality medical care to animals in a clinical setting. This position involves performing a variety of technical tasks such as collecting samples, administering medications, and assisting during surgical procedures to ensure the health and well-being of animal patients. The Vet Technician also educates pet owners on proper animal care, treatment plans, and preventive health measures, fostering a compassionate and informative environment. Working closely with the veterinary team, the Vet Technician helps maintain accurate medical records and ensures compliance with safety and sanitation protocols. Ultimately, this role contributes significantly to the successful diagnosis, treatment, and recovery of animals under the clinic’s care, enhancing overall patient outcomes and client satisfaction.
Requirements
- Completion of an accredited Veterinary Technician program or equivalent education
- Certification or licensure as a Veterinary Technician in the state of employment, as required.
- Basic knowledge of animal anatomy, physiology, and common veterinary medical procedures.
- Strong communication skills to interact effectively with veterinarians, staff, and pet owners.
- Ability to handle animals safely and compassionately in a clinical environment.
Nice To Haves
- Experience working in a veterinary clinic or animal hospital setting.
- Experience working in areas of anesthesia, dentistry, or emergency care.
- Familiarity with veterinary practice management software and electronic medical records.
- Additional training in animal behavior or rehabilitation techniques.
- CPR and first aid certification for animals.
Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and other medical procedures by preparing equipment and restraining animals safely.
- Collect and process laboratory samples such as blood, and urine for diagnostic testing.
- Administer prescribed medications, vaccines, and treatments to animals as directed by the veterinarian.
- Monitor and record vital signs and patient progress, reporting any changes or concerns promptly to the veterinary team.
- Educate pet owners on post-treatment care, nutrition, and preventive health practices to support animal wellness.
- Maintain cleanliness and sterilization of medical instruments, treatment areas, and animal housing to ensure a safe environment.
- Manage inventory of medical supplies and equipment, ensuring availability and proper storage.
- Update and maintain detailed medical records and documentation in compliance with clinic policies and legal requirements.
