The mission of The New York Times is to seek the truth and help people understand the world. That means independent journalism is at the heart of all we do as a company. It’s why we have a world-renowned newsroom that sends journalists to report on the ground from nearly 160 countries. It’s why we focus deeply on how our readers will experience our journalism, from print to audio to a world-class digital and app destination. And it’s why our business strategy centers on making journalism so good that it’s worth paying for. The New York Times is looking for a creative, highly organized Social Video Editor to join our fast-growing NYT Cooking social media and video teams. In this role, you will be responsible for editing, shaping and elevating our short-form, vertical video content on-site and across platforms like Instagram, TikTok and YouTube Shorts. You will drive our ambitious production goals by turning around dozens of snappy videos each week, while simultaneously pioneering the look and feel of our new vertical series to make each one stand out. The ideal candidate has a meticulous eye for detail, a deep understanding of vertical video pacing and a genuine passion for food and culinary storytelling. You know exactly what makes a recipe demo pop on a crowded timeline, and you are comfortable working in a fast-paced newsroom environment. You will collaborate closely with our roster of on-camera talent, recipe developers and social media editors to ensure our work remains culturally relevant, smart and helpful to our viewers. This is an in-office position, based in New York City and includes regular attendance in the office four days each week. There may be some flexibility to work remotely per your departmental guidance.
