Your Impact The Vertex Process Development Co-Op program is a 6-month experiential training program for students currently working towards undergraduate or advanced degree in Biology, Biomedical studies, Biopharmaceutical engineering, or other related fields. The Raw Materials team within Process Development department focus on evaluating and standardizing processes of raw materials used in the type 1 diabetes (T1D) production process. The project will focus on studying the impact of lot-to-lot variability of raw materials and evaluate new raw materials on performance of T1D production process.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in an undergraduate or advanced program in Biology, Biomedical sciences, Biopharmaceuticals, or another related field
  • Experience with cell culture and aseptic technique. Bioreactor operation experience preferred.
  • Good communication skills to share technical/scientific information within the team.
  • Willingness to learn and take initiatives, with a team-oriented attitude.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and to maintain detailed and accurate records and notes.
  • Must be skilled in the Windows operating system and Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. JMP and GraphPad Prism preferred.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States, now and in the future. Please note that Vertex does not provide sponsorship for internships or entry level roles within this part of the organization.
  • You must be enrolled in an advanced degree program if graduating before June 2026
  • You must be available to work full-time, 40 hours per week from January - June 2026

Responsibilities

  • Execute experiments and perform data analysis to show impact of lot-to-lot variability of raw materials and new raw materials on performance of T1D production process.
  • Assess potential correlation between raw material analytical assay data and process performance outcomes.
  • Generate recommendations on how to minimize component lot-to-lot variability to the process and generate potential models to predict performance based on raw material's analytical profiles.
  • Evaluate alternative materials for process improvement and support feasibility assessment in PD implementation.
  • Present/communicate findings and participate in team scientific discussions.
