This position is responsible for coaching student athletes in game strategies and techniques to prepare them for athletic competition. The coach is expected to adhere to the NFHS Coaches Code of Ethics, model nondiscriminatory practices, and assume complete responsibility for the conduct of their team and the philosophy of the entire athletic program. Key duties include being available for contests and practices from Monday through Saturday and some holidays at the start of the athletic season. The coach will supervise the use, issuance, return, cleaning, inventory, and storage of equipment, uniforms, and supplies, and submit requests to the Athletic Director. Establishing positive relationships with coaches, athletes, parents, and community members is crucial. The role also involves attending various meetings (Athletic Director, Building Principal, league, section, coaches’ association), conducting organizational meetings with athletes to explain try-outs, selection methods, cutting procedures, and the code of conduct. The coach must prepare and submit scrimmage and non-league contest schedules, follow established procedures for athlete injuries, submit and update rosters, report scores to news media, and notify staff of any cancellations or unusual incidents. Supervision of team members after practices/games until they have left the premises is required, along with completing end-of-season reports and complying with all relevant policies and regulations. The coach will make decisions for their team in line with established policies, assess player skills, monitor performance, model sports-like behavior, and maintain appropriate conduct towards all stakeholders. Participation in special activities like parent's night, banquets, and pep assemblies is also expected, as well as performing support tasks such as distributing and maintaining eligibility forms and emergency data cards. Additionally, the coach is encouraged to attend staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to enhance coaching performance and will perform any other related duties as assigned by the Athletic Director and Principal.
