This position is responsible for coaching student athletes in game strategies and techniques to prepare them for athletic competition. The coach is expected to adhere to the NFHS Coaches Code of Ethics, model nondiscriminatory practices, and assume complete responsibility for the conduct of their team and the philosophy of the entire athletic program. Key duties include supervising the use, issuance, return, cleaning, inventory, and storage of equipment, uniforms, and supplies, as well as submitting equipment and supply requests to the Athletic Director. The coach will establish positive relationships with coaches, athletes, parents, and community members, and attend various meetings called by the Athletic Director or Building Principal, including league, section, and coaches’ association meetings when required. Responsibilities also involve conducting organization meetings with athletes to explain try-outs, selection methods, cutting procedures, and the code of conduct. The coach must prepare and submit a schedule of scrimmages and non-league contests, follow established procedures for athlete injuries, submit and update rosters, report scores to news media, and notify staff of any cancellations or unusual incidents. Supervision of team members after practices/games until they have left the premises is also required. The coach will complete end-of-season reports and comply with all relevant policies and procedures. Decision-making for the team should align with established policies, reserving broader issues for the Athletic Director. The role includes assessing player skills, monitoring players during competition and practice, modeling sports-like behavior, and maintaining appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators. Participation in special activities such as parent’s night, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies is expected. Support tasks include distributing and maintaining eligibility forms, emergency data cards, and other related records. Additionally, the coach will attend staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance and perform any other related duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or Principal.
