THIS POSITION IS FOR THOSE CANDIDATES THAT DO NOT CURRENTLY HOLD A CDL. If you have a current CDL, please apply for the position titled "School Bus Driver". Although CDL Drivers in Training may be called upon to drive a Van route from time-to-time, at this time we are only hiring individuals who intend to complete the CDL Bus Driver in Training process. TITLE: VAN DRIVER and BUS DRIVER IN-TRAINING QUALIFICATIONS 1. High School Diploma or equivalent. 2. Have and maintain a current Oregon Driver’s License. 3. Ability to operate school vans, practice safe driving, perform pre and post trip inspections, prepare and maintain accurate records, and report vehicle defects as appropriate. 4. Flexibility to work with others in a variety of circumstances. 6. Able to be certified or to become certified in first aid. 7. Able to be trained in behavior intervention methodologies in such areas as student restraint, safety, medication, and physical management and intervention systems. 8. Possess strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively and collaboratively as a team member in an environment with changing tasks and priorities. 9. Able to assist, console, and manage students who may be emotional, distraught, or frustrated. 10. Able to remain calm, focused, and in control when working with students, parents, guardians, and community members who may be upset. 11. Able to follow written and verbal direction, be flexible, and take the initiative to seek clarity and take action when needed. 12. Be or become knowledgeable and supportive of district student discipline procedures. 13. Able to organize and set priorities for accomplishing work in a timel and effective manner. 14. Able to work collaboratively and effectively with staff, students, parents, volunteers, and community members. 15. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. 16. Ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters. 17. This position is subject to random drug testing under Department of Transportation guidelines and in compliance with District Anti-drug and alcohol prevention programs. 18. REPORTS TO: Transportation Supervisor NUMBER OF HOURS PER DAY: Varies but minimum of 4 HOURS PER DAY NUMBER OF DAYS WORKED PER SCHOOL YEAR: 186 DAYS PER YEAR HOURLY RATE OF PAY: $21.28 - $29.95 PER HOUR (RANGE 12) JOB GOAL: This position provides services with specific responsibilities for transporting students over assigned routes; ensuring safe vehicle operation and required inspections; and ensuring safety of students during transport, loading and unloading, under the direct supervision of the transportation supervisors.
