About The Position

The Cape Cod Collaborative is an educational organization providing a full range of instructional and support services to the students, parents and public school staff of our 20 member districts, whose needs are best addressed through a multi-district effort. Our student services include: alternative education programs for low incident, special needs populations; programs for the multi-handicapped; therapy and services for students requiring specialized support; and a full range of transportation services for both the special needs and general education population. We coordinate collegial sharing opportunities for various professional groups, conduct executive searches and offer a wide range of professional development and training opportunities for the educators and support personnel of our member districts. #WeAreOneCollaborative General Summary Under the general supervision of the Transportation Department, the Bus Driver has the primary responsibility for ensuring the health, safety and welfare of the children during transport to and from school. This is a school-year position. There is no expectation of employment when school is not in session. Additional trips and summer work may be available to interested drivers.

Requirements

Maintains a current CDL license with all necessary endorsements, or 7D license, based on route assignment.
Is over the age of twenty-one (21).
Knowledge of methods and procedures in safely transporting students to school.
Must complete required CORI and fingerprint background checks.
Must comply with mandatory random drug and alcohol testing.
Must be capable of lifting 40 lbs. and pushing wheelchairs.
Must be able to move through the bus, and to assist students in an emergency evacuation.
Ability to properly secure wheelchairs which includes bending, pulling, and lifting
Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
This job involves sitting for long periods as well as stooping, squatting, lifting, carrying, pushing and climbing.
There is the potential of infrequent exposure to blood and bodily fluids.
There is risk involved with travel on roads and highways.
Must be able to enter and exit a vehicle without assistance, must be able to move physically throughout the bus, and withstand exposure to adverse weather conditions.

Responsibilities

Completes a daily circle check inspection of the bus and reports any conditions of concern to the Transportation Office.
Ensures that the two-way radio is in proper working order.
Ensures the bus always has sufficient fuel.
Arranges for and ensures completion of routine maintenance of the bus (e.g. oil change).
Transports the vehicle to and from maintenance facility and provides notification regarding maintenance to the Transportation Office.
Maintains current route information.
Operates the bus in compliance with all road and safety regulations.
Follows safe bus loading and unloading procedures.
Follows procedures to guarantee no child is left alone on the bus without adult supervision at any time.
Verifies that all children have departed the bus at the end of each bus route (morning, evening, field trips, or other special trips).
Assures that the bus is clean and disinfected, and in proper working condition at all times.
In case of accidents/emergencies, evacuates children according to written and practiced procedures.
Assures that emergency procedures are followed in the event of an accident.
Attends and participates in mandatory training and other continuing education opportunities.
Performs other duties, as assigned.
Maintains CPR/First Aid certification. (The employer will provide training.)
Follows all Cape Cod Collaborative policies and procedures.
