About The Position

This position is located in the
Water Quality Division of the Utilities
Department and is under the general direction of an immediate supervisor. The
Utilities Electrical Supervisor is a full proficiency, technical classification
involving supervision of Utilities’ electrical projects, requiring skill,
knowledge and abilities acquired prior to assuming the duties of the position.
The position supervises skilled trades routinely involved in maintenance and
construction activity for electrical and/or heating and air systems in an
industrial setting. Journeyman level skills and knowledge acquired in an
industrial setting for electrical systems are necessary prior to assuming the
duties of the position.

Requirements

• Possession of a High School diploma or GED equivalent.
• Possession of a valid Driver License (Operator).
• Possession of a valid Oklahoma State Unlimited or Contractor Journeyman Wireman's License.
• Possession of a valid Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality Class D Water Operator License for water systems and/or a valid Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality Class D Wastewater Operator License for wastewater systems based upon assignment.
• Knowledge of and skill in applying National Electrical Codes and City Ordinances.
• Knowledge and ability to apply state and federal regulations for water or wastewater operations relating to water or wastewater quality.
• Skill determining the most feasible installation, techniques, and procedures.
• Skill performing precision work without damaging structural soundness.
• Skill installing heavy wall rigid conduit.
• Skill and ability to identify and anticipate problems
• Skill using and interpreting standard testing devices.
• Skill using specialized software to program or alter electronic devices, controllers and meters.
• Skill troubleshooting, repairing, adjusting, and/or installing up to 3000hp electric motors.
• Skill troubleshooting, repairing, adjusting, and/or installing power and high voltage electrical systems (480V up to 12,500V), switch gear, transformers, motor starters, motor controls, etc., per industry standards.
• Skill troubleshooting, repairing, adjusting, modifying and/or installing controls and instruments per industry standards.
• Skill drawing and interpreting electrical and control schematics.
• Skill in communicating with tact and diplomacy.
• Skill in coordinating multiple work assignments.
• Skill in making sound technical judgment, decisions and setting priorities.
• Skill in utilizing an electronic work order system.
• Skill in supervising and directing the work of skilled trades involved in industrial electrical.
• Ability to follow instructions.
• Ability to think logically and analytically in anticipating and resolving problems.

Nice To Haves

• Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in supervision.
• Skill in use of computer software: Microsoft software, email, and electronic work order systems.
• Project management skills.
• Skill in diagnosing complex repairs on medium and/or high voltage equipment associated with automated production processes.

Responsibilities

• Supervising and performing duties of the Industrial Electrician classification, and related administrative duties.
• Maintaining, troubleshooting, installing and/or repairing electrical equipment, instruments, parts, components, and controls in standard and high voltage system environments or facilities.
• Planning, prioritizing, organizing, and distributing assignments to determine scheduling sequence and lead time of each project or maintenance activity and to meet unforeseen emergency situations for critical and continuous operation.
• Planning for the most feasible installations, compiling and computing cost estimates, and preparing sketches indicating proposed improvements or changes.
• Identifying and analyzing staff training needs and providing demonstration and training on the job.
• Providing guidance and information to skilled staff on proper safety and work procedures to ensure the efficient and safe completion of assignments.
• Reviewing work and implementing problem improvement actions, utilizing technical and troubleshooting skills, on routine, escalated, and emergency situations.
• Evaluating blueprints, drawings, and equipment specifications for plan review.
• Preparing workgroup budgets for submission to Division Head and monitoring workgroup expenditures to stay within budget allotments.
• Compiling data for work-activity report.
• Maintaining inventory of supplies.
• Ensuring work performed complies with state and federal regulations related to water or wastewater operations.
• Inspecting, testing, installing or replacing electrical wiring, lighting, rigid conduit, etc.
• Cleaning, repairing and replacing dirty or worn parts.
• Diagnosing and repairing electrical systems and electrical malfunctions.
• Performing other duties as assigned.
