About The Position

The Presidio Trust is seeking a Utilities Supervisor who will support the Utilities Department. The Presidio Trust is an innovative federal agency that stewards and shares the history, beauty, and wonder of the Presidio for everyone to enjoy forever. The ancestral homeland of the Ramaytush Ohlone, the Presidio was once a military post under three flags. Today, it is a surprising national park site spanning 1,500 acres at the Golden Gate. Reporting to the Utilities Manager, the Utilities Supervisor will coordinate and supervise the activities of workers engaged in repair and maintenance of sanitary sewer and storm drains. This is a full-time position with benefits and a starting pay range of $126,820 to $138,006, based in the San Francisco Bay Area. The starting base salary is dependent on the experience and qualifications of the candidate. Applications received by April 3, 2026, will receive first consideration.

Requirements

  • Five (5) years of experience in wastewater operations within the last seven (7) years
  • Training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities; knowledge of applicable state and/or Federal policies, laws, and regulations affecting a full-service utility operation.
  • Experience includes supervision of municipal-type services.
  • Must have ability to read, analyze, and interpret general technical manuals, procedures, diagrams, schedules, and governmental regulations; ability to write reports; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, residential and commercial tenants, and the public.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations; and Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • A valid California Drivers license.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise utility plumbers and utility worker (locator/meter reader).
  • Maintain inventory and purchase necessary system supplies and equipment.
  • Direct workers in connecting sewer lines to mains, inspecting and cleaning sewers and storm drains, and making repairs and alterations as needed.
  • Inspect and maintain water quality control equipment to prevent polluted storm water from entering our receiving waters.
  • Investigate complaints and take appropriate corrective action to correct deficiencies.
  • Prepare reports, analyses, and recommendations for Utilities Department projects.
  • Oversee the utility locating function of the Presidio Trust dig permit process including coordinating with contractors, project managers, and the various public utility agencies involved.
  • Operate equipment such as backhoes, jackhammers, pumps, air compressors, and other equipment used in repair and maintenance of sewers.
  • Develop the annual work plans to accomplish goals and objectives as set forth by the Utilities Manager.
  • Set goals and priorities for the needs and operations of the wastewater group.
  • Plan and develop the wastewater operations based on park goals and priorities.
  • Work with other park departments in planning and coordination.
  • Plan current and future work schedules and cost estimates and proposals for projects.
  • Develop program plans and project cost and time estimates, and make recommendations for new operating methods, work techniques and standards.
  • Provide Project Management Services as required for Trust staff and Contractor performed work.
  • Interpret Trust policies and regulations.
  • Responsible for communicating and enforcing safety regulations to subordinate workers.
  • Assign and issue work orders to staff.
  • Establish and/or adjust work procedures to meet production schedules.
  • Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
  • Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency and promote safety of shop, department, or crew.
