Department of Public Safety Standards and Training Use of Force Instructor (Public Safety Training Specialist 1) This recruitment is for one (1), regular, full-time position located in Salem, OR (4190 Aumsville Hwy SE) and is represented by Oregon Public Safety Association. This recruitment will be used to establish a list of qualified applicants and may be used to fill future vacancies. What you will be doing: As a Use of Force Instructor your primary responsibility will be to facilitate student learning using confrontational simulation (ConSim) scenarios. Post-scenario, you will debrief students regarding various legal and use of force matters, tactical decision making, communication skills, and other topics. Your other responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, performing administrative tasks related to scenario training (preparing equipment and the training environment, delivering safety briefings, etc.) and running virtual simulation (MILO) training. As well as instructing use of force topics in a classroom setting. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to work with basic students in other venues (e.g. firearms, defensive tactics, tactical skills, classroom instruction, etc.) outside of the use of force program. Safety and quality of training are DPSST’s top priorities. As a use of force instructor, you will work as part of a team to provide the highest quality training possible while maintaining and enforcing safety protocols. You will have direct interaction with students on a daily basis; thus, you will have the opportunity to influence the lives of Oregon’s future law enforcement officers and leaders in a very direct way.
