About The Position

Department of Public Safety Standards and Training Instructor Development Coordinator (Public Safety Training Specialist 2) This recruitment is for one (1), regular, full-time position located in Salem, OR (4190 Aumsville Hwy SE) and is represented by Oregon Public Safety Association. This recruitment will be used to establish a list of qualified applicants and may be used to fill future vacancies. Position Schedule: This position is in an in-person position and is not eligible for offsite or hybrid work arrangements. As the Instructor Development Coordinator, you collaborate and assist with the full spectrum of instructor training operations, including program planning, scheduling, marketing, onboarding, and ongoing professional development. You will guide and support full‑ and part‑time instructors to ensure performance aligns with organizational philosophy, while managing authorizations, evaluations, and resource allocation. You’ll provide subject‑matter‑expert instruction across diverse public safety training programs and collaborate with curriculum teams to advance research‑based, student‑centered learning practices. You lead instructional quality assurance efforts, coach instructors to strengthen diversity, equity, and inclusion in training delivery, and step in to support instruction when needed. About DPSST: The Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) oversees the development of professional standards and the delivery of quality training for law enforcement officers, corrections officers, parole and probation officers, firefighters, telecommunicators, and emergency medical dispatchers. DPSST is also the regulatory agency that enforces employment and training standards for the above listed public safety disciplines and licenses proprietary security managers, security contractors and officers, polygraph examiners, and private investigators. Requirements

  • Six (6) years of professional level experience related to the instructional assignment and/or based on ORS 181.610 through 181.690.
  • Typically, this experience is in the area of public safety (law enforcement officers, adult and youth corrections officers, parole and probation officers, fire service professionals, telecommunicators, and emergency medical dispatchers).
  • Experience must have included delivering structured training sessions or on-the-job training.
  • College-level coursework related to the subject matter of instruction may substitute on the basis of 45-quarter units per year of experience up to a maximum of three (3) years.
  • Successful candidates for this position will be subject to a computerized criminal history check. Adverse background information will be reviewed and could result in withdrawal of a conditional job offer or termination of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional level experience designing, developing, and evaluating instructor development programs, curricula, and/or training material for adult learners.
  • Experience conducting needs assessment, learning analysis, or program evaluations to inform instructional strategies.
  • Ability to apply instructional design methodologies to adult learning environments.
  • Working experience facilitating instructor training, coaching and/ or professional development activities.
  • Experience working in environments that required collaboration with subject matter experts, instructors and organizational stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to understand behavioral instruction and human performance.
  • Proven ability to communicate and interact effectively, clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing while demonstrating empathy, tact and professionalism, and fostering strong collaborative relationships with management, staff and other stakeholders.
  • Preference may be given to candidates who have five (5) years of professional level experience related to instructional development and assessments.
  • Preference may be given to candidates who have a bachelor’s degree or higher in education, instructional design, curriculum development, training and development, or related field.
