About The Position

St. Stephen's Episcopal School, a day and boarding school of 710 students (grades 6-12), is seeking an Upper School History Teacher for a full-time position beginning August 1, 2026. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in History or a related field required – advanced degree preferred
  • Demonstrated expertise in teaching World History, US History and/or electives
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of Middle and/or Upper School teaching experience, ideally at an independent school
  • Strong communication, collaboration, organization, and classroom management skills
  • Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive classroom environment
  • Ability to effectively engage students across a range of abilities and learning styles
  • Willingness to adapt to evolving teaching assignments in support of institutional needs
  • Commitment to professional growth and collaboration with colleagues, including a growth mindset and enthusiasm for lifelong learning and professional development

Responsibilities

  • Teach four sections of Upper School History and one single-term elective section as assigned
  • Design and implement engaging, rigorous, and inclusive curriculum that aligns with school standards and best practices
  • Develop and deliver engaging, student-centered instruction that reflects best practices in teaching and learning
  • Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student inquiry and collaboration and reflects culturally relevant teaching practices
  • Assess student learning through varied and meaningful formative and summative assessments
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students
  • Collaborate with department colleagues and other faculty on cross-disciplinary and cross-divisional initiatives and assessments
  • Provide timely, relevant and objective feedback to students and families
  • Contribute to other areas of school life, such as coaching an athletic team, advising a club or activity, assisting with student leadership programs, or supporting other extracurricular opportunities that enrich the student experience
  • Serve as a student advisor
  • Supervise students as age-appropriate during: lunchtime, study halls, afternoon activities, library, Chapel and assembly programs required for students
  • Serve as a chaperone at student events, participate in student retreats and community service days, and attend team meetings, as assigned
  • Contribute to the broader school community through participation in meetings, events, and professional development opportunities
