About The Position

Cape Henry Collegiate's History and Social Science Department is seeking a full-time Upper School History and Social Science teacher starting in August 2026. The ideal candidate is a passionate, student-centered educator with a strong background in International Relations, U.S. Government, and/or Modern World History. The school is committed to graduating independent thinkers and globally aware citizens, with the History and Social Science Department central to this mission. The role requires deep content knowledge, energy, creativity, and flexibility to engage curious students through dynamic learning experiences. The program offers diverse courses in World History, U.S. History, U.S. Government, and related fields. The educator should be comfortable with inquiry-driven discussions, collaborative projects, and innovative approaches that incorporate multiple perspectives. Requirements

  • Strong history and social science proficiency that allows for confident, spontaneous interaction and application of knowledge.
  • Ability to plan and implement effective lessons to engage Upper School students and increase their knowledge and ability to forge connections across disciplines and between classroom instruction and current events.
  • Effective use of formative and summative evaluation to meet the needs of each student.
  • Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education.
  • Ability to infuse technology into the curriculum.
  • Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, students, parents and community.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.
  • Bachelor's Degree in History or a related field.

Nice To Haves

  • Deep content knowledge, ideally supported by a graduate degree in history, international relations, or a related field.
  • Master’s Degree and/or state teaching license.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with colleagues around best practices to maximize student learning.
  • Develop, select and modify instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students.
  • Create a classroom environment that provides for student involvement in the learning process and enables each student to achieve learning objectives.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Maintain a safe, positive, and fair classroom environment for all students.
  • Collaborate with the History and Social Science Department and the Grade Level team to support both curricular goals as well as the social, emotional, and academic wellbeing of students.
  • Make provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Perform other duties as required.
