About The Position

Dwight School, a Pre-K-12 coeducational school on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, is seeking an experienced and innovative Upper School History Teacher for the 2026-2027 academic year. The ideal candidate would be an experienced teacher with a successful track record in teaching History courses.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Science Education, History, or a related field required
  • At least three (3) years of experience teaching
  • Willingness to engage with and learn from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences
  • Ability to bring joy, kindness, maturity, humor, hard work, and flexibility to the school environment

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Social Science Education, History, or a related field preferred
  • Experience with the IB Middle Years Program and Diploma Program highly preferred
  • Experience teaching to a wide range of learners
  • Experience teaching and developing curriculum for Global History and US History highly preferred
  • Experience teaching IBDP Global Politics and/or IBDP History preferred.
  • Experience with thoughtful integration of technology and AI into curricula preferre
  • Eagerness to contribute positively to the Dwight School community

Responsibilities

  • Teach Grade 9 Global History and Grade 10 US History Standard and Honors courses.
  • Collaborate closely with other Dwight colleagues concerning the development of curriculum, academic scope and sequence, student wellness and growth, and professional development to yield a positive and healthy school environment
  • Intentionally construct and develop an interactive classroom environment for students to grow in the IB Middle Years Program
  • Develop and foster student’s skill progression throughout the program through differentiated instruction, based on the department’s internal scope and sequence
  • Teach critical thinking and analysis, while delivering an excellent social studies curriculum rooted in inquiry-based learning
  • Form relationships with students in an effort to foster personal academic growth within each pupil
  • Display a commitment to diversity and creating a culture of equity, inclusion, and belonging in approach to teaching and learning, as they are recognized and valued by Dwight
  • Complete an online Anti-Bias training program in the first year of teaching
