About The Position

The UPE Controls Specialist is responsible for researching, developing, and implementing Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) standards and specifications for the Stellantis UPE Controls organization. This role requires deep technical expertise in controls systems, strong problem‑solving capabilities, and the ability to lead the deployment of new technologies across North American plants. The ideal candidate will possess hands‑on experience in control hardware design, safety applications, PLC logic development, HMI design, and robot programming/troubleshooting. The role also requires familiarity with upper‑level ICT systems and their interfaces with plant‑floor PLCs. The Controls Specialist will manage and support the development of technical specifications, present solutions and innovations to stakeholders, and train engineering and plant personnel during technology rollouts. Travel within North America is required to support UPE facilities as a subject‑matter expert.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in manufacturing, controls engineering, maintenance, or a related discipline
  • Minimum 3 years of hands‑on experience programming PLC, HMI, CNC, and FANUC robot controllers
  • Demonstrated ability to lead the development and design of controls hardware and software for new equipment
  • Strong analytical and innovative thinking skills with excellent organizational abilities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook)

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field
  • 5+ years of engineering experience with strong background in PLC/HMI/CNC/PC programming
  • Experience with major controls platforms, including FANUC, Siemens, Rockwell, and Mitsubishi
  • Experience in machining and assembly operations
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD
  • Self‑directed, highly motivated, and able to implement change within defined strategic direction
  • Project management experience leading cross‑functional teams, including SBU, NBU, and UAW workforce members
