About The Position

To provide general clerical, equipment, and patient care support to patient care units. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive; employees will perform other reasonably related business duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor and/or hospital administration as required.

Requirements

  • Nurse Aide, Certified Nurse Aide, Medical Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, Patient Care Technician School, EMT training.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (CPR) continuously maintained (May onboard with AHA or Red Cross CPR and then transition to AHA upon first renewal).
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI) within 6 months of hire and maintained continuously thereafter.
  • Must obtain a national certification relevant to field within 1 year of completing orientation and continuously maintained ongoing.

Nice To Haves

  • Training or experience to perform EKG and/or Phlebotomy.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains utmost level of confidentiality at all times.
  • Adheres to hospital policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines.
  • Respond to communication devices such as phone/vocera/call bells.
  • Able to complete basic entries into the electronic medical record.
  • Records patient data in EMR.
  • Transcribes written orders.
  • Stocks supplies.
  • Checks for expiration dates.
  • Orders supplies.
  • Cleans equipment.
  • Cleans toys.
  • Transports blood borne pathogen or other patient specimens.
  • Picks up blood from blood bank and delivers to the unit.
  • Sprays surgical instruments with enzymatic cleanser and prepares/transports them for processing.
  • Packages or moves infectious waste containers for disposal.
  • May provide in rooms support for patients on airborne precautions.
  • Assists with hazardous chemical decontamination.
  • Measures, records and empties urine collection devices.
  • Empties bedpans/commodes.
  • Reinforces established education material or room orientation with patients/families.
  • Transports patients off unit for tests/procedures.
  • Discontinues Peripheral TV’s.
  • Obtains Point of Care specimens and urine, wound, stool throat and nasal specimens.
  • Brings equipment and assists the Transport team at the helicopter pad.
  • Performs venipuncture.
  • Performs 12 Lead EKG tests.
  • Performs splint application.
  • Performs room safety check for patients at risk for self-harm or harm to others.
  • Performs non-clinical patient assistant role in addition to performs 1:1 supervision for at risk patients including patients in restraints (not hard restraints).
  • Completes basic data collection and documentation for at risk patients.
