About The Position

The Unit Tech Level III ER provides general clerical, equipment, and patient care support to patient care units. This role requires maintaining utmost confidentiality, adhering to hospital policies and procedures, and demonstrating ethical actions in line with corporate compliance and integrity guidelines. Driscoll Children’s Hospital is a 191-bed tertiary care center offering 32 medical and 13 surgical specialties, serving 31 South Texas counties. Requirements

  • Nurse Aide, Certified Nurse Aide, Medical Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, Patient Care Technician School, or EMT training
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (CPR) continuously maintained (may onboard with AHA or Red Cross CPR and then transition to AHA upon first renewal)
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI) within 6 months of hire and maintained continuously thereafter
  • Must obtain a national certification relevant to field within 1 year of completing orientation and continuously maintained ongoing

  • Training or experience to perform EKG and/or Phlebotomy

Responsibilities

  • Maintain utmost level of confidentiality at all times
  • Adhere to hospital policies and procedures
  • Demonstrate personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines
  • Respond to communication devices such as phone/vocera/call bells
  • Complete basic entries into the electronic medical record
  • Record patient data in EMR
  • Transcribe written orders
  • Stock supplies
  • Check for expiration dates
  • Order supplies
  • Clean equipment
  • Clean toys
  • Transport blood borne pathogen or other patient specimens
  • Pick up blood from blood bank and deliver to the unit
  • Spray surgical instruments with enzymatic cleanser and prepare/transport them for processing
  • Package or move infectious waste containers for disposal
  • Provide in rooms support for patients on airborne precautions
  • Assist with hazardous chemical decontamination
  • Measure, record and empty urine collection devices
  • Empty bedpans/commodes
  • Reinforce established education material or room orientation with patients/families
  • Transport patients off unit for tests/procedures
  • Discontinue Peripheral TV’s
  • Obtain Point of Care specimens and urine, wound, stool throat and nasal specimens
  • Bring equipment and assist the Transport team at the helicopter pad
  • Perform venipuncture
  • Perform 12 Lead EKG tests
  • Perform splint application
  • Perform room safety check for patients at risk for self-harm or harm to others
  • Perform non-clinical patient assistant role in addition to performs 1:1 supervision for at risk patients including patients in restraints (not hard restraints)
  • Complete basic data collection and documentation
