The Medical Intermediate and Intensive Care Unit is a progressively opening unit with flexible patient acuity ranging from Acute to Intensive Care. This unit provides quality care to Internal Medicine patients with a variety of medical diagnoses including renal, gastrointestinal, pulmonary, hepatology, infectious disease, endocrine, and gerontology. The unit has been recognized by AACN as a Beacon Gold Unit for Excellence, achieved through collaborative practice, a highly satisfied workforce, and a healthy work environment supporting both novice and expert clinicians. It is a 28-bed hybrid unit on the 3rd Floor of the Critical Care Hospital, focused on adult medical patients with primary admission diagnoses such as respiratory failure, sepsis, multisystem organ failure, GI bleeds, DKA, and significant compromise of kidney and liver failure. The Medicine Units practice evidence-based care, serve patients through the continuum of care, provide 24-hour accessibility to hospitalists and teaching physician services, offer access to Watson rooms for mindfulness, promote professional development, and deliver exceptional care through interprofessional collaboration. The Unit Secretary performs a variety of clerical tasks involved in preparing, maintaining, and processing patient and unit activities, data, and records.
