About The Position

In keeping with our organization’s goal of improving the lives of the Residents we serve; The Unit Manager provides, plans, coordinates, or manages nursing care and health education to nursing home residents on assigned unit throughout all hours of operation.

Requirements

  • Current state license to practice as a nurse.
  • CPR Certified.
  • Prefer a registered nurse with management or supervisor experience in long-term care or geriatric nursing. Minimum of licensed practical or vocational nurse with experience in long-term care or geriatric nursing.
  • Knowledge of current federal and state laws and regulations that apply to the practice of nursing in a long-term care setting.
  • Has strong organizational and time management skills and the ability to prioritize responsibilities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Strong ability to collaborate with members of the team across all disciplines.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
  • Ability to work with people with physical and mental disabilities including those using profanity, derogatory language and the like.
  • Ability and willingness to work over 40 hours per week as the demands of the facility call for it.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Tolerate potential exposure to blood, body tissues, and fluids with occasional exposure to hazardous materials and infectious diseases.
  • Manual dexterity required to operate modern office equipment.
  • Ability to travel as needed or assigned.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in nursing specialty desired.
  • Wound Care experience highly preferred.
  • Infection Control and Prevention Certification and/or experience highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Reports to and collaborates with Director of Nursing.
  • Provides clinical oversight and supervises all nursing care activities on assigned unit.
  • Oversees the facility's infection control program, documents and tracks infections in the assigned unit and assist with the implementation and enforcement of infection control processes.
  • Monitors, completes and implements wound care treatments, assessments and weekly tracking of all wounds.
  • Reviews, implements, and evaluates nursing procedures and systems as needed.
  • Conducts nursing assessments, implements, and evaluates individualized nursing care.
  • Selects and initiates appropriate interventions to stabilize conditions and prevent complications.
  • Consults with physicians and licensed practitioners; clarifies questionable orders.
  • Administers medications and treatments safely and documents accurately.
  • Promotes Resident safety and delivers health education and counseling.
  • Collaborates with Residents, families, and the healthcare team.
  • Initiates referrals to community agencies to support continuity of care as needed.
  • Accepts assignments within scope of training and seeks supervision as needed.
  • Uses independent judgment while adhering to facility policies, including emergency and safety protocols.
  • Takes on-call duties as assigned and interprets company policies in decision-making.
  • Maintains confidentiality per HIPAA and complies with infection control and OSHA standards.
  • Actively participates in the facility's QAPI process.
  • Protects Resident Rights, supports informed decision-making, and reports suspected abuse or neglect.
  • Participates in the nurse management team’s on-call rotation and performs associated supervisory duties during non business hours.
  • Maintains regular attendance and performs additional duties as required.
