About The Position

Sompo has a unique opportunity for an Underwriting Technician in their Middle Market Underwriting Support team. The Middle Market Underwriting team offers diverse multi-line capabilities targeted at select industry verticals such as real estate, hospitality, financial institutions, professional services, technology, and life science. They work through a network of retail brokers who share a commitment to long-term partnerships built on a strong service proposition. Requirements

  • 2 years of underwriting support experience.
  • Ability to effectively communicate information and ideas to drive our business.
  • Technical capabilities such as Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Undergraduate degree or demonstrable industry experience.
  • Ability and willingness to learn and understand terminology, coverages and appetite for specific industry groups and customers.

Responsibilities

  • Assist underwriters with submissions, rating accounts, drafting quotes, binders, policies, and endorsements.
  • Codes, bills, registers, processes, and distributes insurance invoices, binders, policies, and endorsement within processing standards established by leadership.
  • Prepare and maintain underwriting files, such as underwriting workbooks, ensuring for file integrity.
  • Contacts external distribution partners for any required or outstanding underwriting information; pre or post binding as needed to underwrite and complete file documentation.
  • Review and analyze facultative reinsurance certificates as determined by management.
  • Ensure all underwriting activities comply with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Analyze and resolve premium discrepancies such as partnering with accounting to settle overdue premiums.
  • Implement and maintain a field service reputation that is recognized as superior in the industry.
