This Underwriter IV - Commercial position is within PNC's Regional Credit Products Group organization, based in Coral Gables, FL. PNC operates as an in-office company, encouraging candidates to understand workplace expectations. Sponsorship for employment visas or participation in STEM OPT will not be provided for this position. The role involves working autonomously, exercising exception and elevated approval authority, and preparing offerings for all types of complex transactions or managing assigned portfolios. The Underwriter interacts with internal and external customers, provides recommendations for credit structuring, and serves as a subject matter expert for certain asset classes, potentially leading special projects. Responsibilities also include coaching, mentoring, and assisting other underwriters on best practices, using independent judgment to identify risks and mitigants, preparing offerings and/or scorecards by analyzing credit, collateral strength, and financial worthiness. The role performs ongoing credit risk management for assigned portfolios, reviews the work of other underwriters, and may fill in for a manager. It requires contacting various parties for information, performing pre-approval and post-approval activities, confirming regulatory requirements, ensuring policy adherence, and making or recommending credit decisions.

Requirements

  • University / college degree, with 5+ years of industry-relevant experience.
  • Specific certifications are often required.
  • In lieu of a degree, a comparable combination of education and experience (including military service) may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Works autonomously.

  • Coaches and/or reviews the work of other underwriters.
  • Fills in for manager as required.
  • Contacts internal/external customers and other parties as appropriate to gather information and to clarify inconsistent, incorrect or missing information.
  • Performs relevant pre-approval and post-approval activities.
  • Identifies and/or confirms all external regulatory requirements.
  • Ensures internal policies/procedures are followed.
  • Makes recommendations on credit decisions or makes credit decisions directly, as appropriate.
