About The Position

Indiana University Health and Riley Children’s Health is seeking passionate, recent and upcoming graduates to join their team and collaborate with top medical professionals. Positions may be available at multiple locations, with full-time, part-time, and PRN statuses, and may include day, evening, night, weekend, and rotating shifts, depending on department needs. The role involves performing a range of general ultrasound examinations, including limited vascular studies, pediatric exams, obstetric imaging, and procedural support, with guidance from experienced team members. The technologist will use ultrasound equipment to obtain images of patients’ internal organs, tissues, and blood flow, learning to evaluate image quality and make adjustments. They will work closely with radiologists, lead sonographers, and other healthcare professionals to support accurate diagnostic results, communicate with patients, and ensure a safe and comfortable experience. The position also requires learning and following current scanning protocols, departmental policies, quality standards, and maintaining compliance with high-level disinfection and infection prevention practices. As skills develop, the technologist will assist with minimally invasive and image-guided procedures, gain exposure to ultrasound contrast indications and administration under supervision, and provide intraoperative ultrasound support.

Requirements

  • 0-1 year of experience
  • Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) is required
  • Requires ability to maneuver equipment and improvise positions when the condition of the patient does not permit routine positioning
  • For ACR accredited ultrasound departments: Requires active status through one of the following: American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS): Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer - Abdomen, RDMS(AB), Obstetrics & Gynecology, RDMS(OB/GYN), or Pediatric Sonography, RDMS(PS), and/or Registered Vascular Technologist - Vascular Technology , RVT(VT); American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT): Registered Technologist - Sonography, RT(S) or Vascular Sonography, RT(VS) ; or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI): Registered Vascular Sonographer, RVS; as required by facility accreditation, if applicable
  • Exception (if performing breast ultrasound only): must obtain credential through American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS): RDMS(BR); or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT): Registered Technologist - Sonography & Breast US, RT(S)(BS), or Radiography, Mammography & Breast Ultrasound, RT(R)(M) (BS); within 18 months of hire
  • For non-ACR accredited ultrasound departments: Requires candidates to meet one of the two following conditions: Must be actively pursuing ultrasound education and have already passed the ARDMS physics boards or must have graduated from an ultrasound education program
  • For non-ACR accredited ultrasound departments: Requires certification through one of the methods mentioned in the accredited section above within 12 months of hire
  • May be required to meet registry/certification requirements for another modality, if applicable
  • May require a license from Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH), if applicable

Responsibilities

  • Performs a range of general ultrasound examinations, including limited vascular studies, pediatric exams, obstetric imaging, and procedural support, with guidance and support from experienced team members as needed
  • Uses ultrasound equipment to obtain images of patients’ internal organs, tissues, and blood flow, while learning to evaluate image quality and make adjustments to improve clarity and accuracy
  • Works closely with radiologists, lead sonographers, and other healthcare professionals to support accurate diagnostic results
  • Communicates with patients by explaining procedures, assisting with positioning, and helping ensure a safe and comfortable experience
  • Learn and follow current scanning protocols, departmental policies, and quality standards, while maintaining compliance with high-level disinfection and infection prevention practices
  • Assists with minimally invasive and image-guided procedures as skills develop
  • Gains exposure to ultrasound contrast indications and administration under supervision
  • Provides intraoperative ultrasound support when requested and appropriate for training level
