Ultrasound Technologist-PRN
About The Position
This position is PRN, days, in the mammography department, at IUHMG W-West Lafayette. The Ultrasound Technologist provides diagnostic patient care services using ultrasound to generate images of patients' internal organs, tissues, and blood flow. The role involves the independent operation of sonographic equipment, evaluating images for diagnostic quality, and making necessary adjustments to capture the best possible images. The technologist collaborates with radiologists and other healthcare professionals to provide accurate diagnostic information and ensures patient safety and comfort during procedures by explaining the process, positioning patients correctly, and adjusting equipment as needed. The position requires familiarity with current scan protocols, maintaining compliance with high level disinfection practices, assisting with minimally invasive procedures, and possessing familiarity with ultrasound contrast indications and administration practices. Intraoperative ultrasound may also be provided as requested.
Requirements
- 0-3 years of relevant experience
- Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Ability to maneuver equipment and improvise positions when the condition of the patient does not permit routine positioning
- For ACR accredited ultrasound departments: Active status through one of the following: American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS): Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer - Abdomen, RDMS(AB), Obstetrics & Gynecology, RDMS(OB/GYN), or Pediatric Sonography, RDMS(PS), and/or Registered Vascular Technologist - Vascular Technology , RVT(VT); American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT): Registered Technologist - Sonography, RT(S) or Vascular Sonography, RT(VS) ; or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI): Registered Vascular Sonographer, RVS; as required by facility accreditation, if applicable
- Exception (if performing breast ultrasound only): must obtain credential through American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS): RDMS(BR); or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT): Registered Technologist - Sonography & Breast US, RT(S)(BS), or Radiography , Mammography & Breast Ultrasound, RT(R)(M)(BS); within 18 months of hire
- For non-ACR accredited ultrasound departments: Must be actively pursuing ultrasound education and have already passed the ARDMS physics boards, or must have graduated from an ultrasound education program
- For non-ACR accredited ultrasound departments: Requires certification through one of the methods mentioned in the accredited section above within 12 months of hire
- May be required to meet registry/certification requirements for another modality, if applicable
- May require license from Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH), if applicable
