About The Position

As our entry level, MAPTS-trained support miner, you will be operating and maintaining underground construction and road maintenance equipment to keep our production going and our profitability up. You will start your career with Greens Creek by attending the Mining & Petroleum Training Service's (MAPTS) Underground Miner Training Camp in Delta Junction, AK. The travel is paid for by Greens Creek, and the training is paid by a grant through the State of Alaska. Once graduated, you will work at a mine on a remote island about 18 miles outside of Juneau, Alaska. You’ll start every job with safety first by inspecting your workplace, your equipment, and then the preparation of ground, loading, and placement of backfill to be placed underground. We’re on a remote island, you must know how to work independently. About Us The Greens Creek Mine, located on Admiralty Island 18 miles south of Juneau, is an underground polymetallic mine operating since 1989, employing approximately 500 people. The mine is owned and operated by Hecla Mining Company, headquartered in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Established in 1891, Hecla has a rich history as a distinguished and respected precious metals producer. Winner of numerous safety and environmental awards, Greens Creek is seeking new team members committed to professional growth and success. Here’s what you can expect in this role: You must be an Alaska resident, that intends to remain indefinitely, to be eligible for the MAPTS training and the grant from the State of Alaska. Training first. You will attend the MAPTS UG Miner Training Camp starting on October 9th. You will train for two weeks, be off for two weeks, and come back for a final two weeks and graduated on November 21st. Once graduated, you will hire on as a full-time employee of Greens Creek. Then, in the first 4 days on the job, you will be provided MSHA training. We also provide department-level training on not just what to do, but safety, as well. You'll pass a background screening for ATF (Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms). Apply your mechanical aptitude in operating and maintaining trucks, jammers, the batch plant, and other equipment. You'll work on a remote island and living in a mining camp environment away from home if you are not Juneau based. Our department has different schedule options such as 14 days on/14 days off, 20 days on/10 days off, or 14 days on/7 days off. You’ll be below ground doing workplace inspections assigned each morning. Then, we’ll rely on you to prioritize your work before you get started. Safety is important. Every piece of equipment and each work area must be inspected before we start the day for your safety and the safety of your team.
