About The Position

The UG Safety & Contractor Compliance Coordinator serves as a key technical advisor and safety advocate for site leadership, with primary responsibility for contractor health and safety governance across underground operations and project-driven work. This role supports major capital projects, underground development, shutdowns, and maintenance campaigns by ensuring contractor activities are effectively planned, controlled, and executed in compliance with MSHA regulations and First Majestic's Health & Safety standards. Working closely with Senior Safety and Health professionals, Project Managers, Operations leadership, and contractors, the coordinator provides hands-on field oversight, coaching, and verification to control risk, resolve complex safety challenges, and drive consistent contractor accountability in a dynamic, high-risk underground environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Mining, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of hands-on experience in an underground mining environment, with significant experience supporting project-heavy or contractor-intensive work.
  • Strong working knowledge of MSHA regulations, underground hazard controls, and contractor health and safety management systems.
  • Demonstrated experience managing contractor safety performance on capital projects, shutdowns, or major maintenance campaigns.
  • MSHA-authorized trainer for the mining industry.
  • MSHA Blue Card holder for underground operations (required).
  • Knowledge of industry-recognized H&S management systems and occupational regulatory frameworks.
  • Strong communication, influencing, and conflict-resolution skills with the ability to enforce standards and drive accountability across contractors and site leadership.
  • Demonstrated commitment to building a disciplined, proactive, and accountable safety culture.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with underground emergency response and mine rescue programs; leadership or administrative experience preferred.
  • Mining, construction, utilities, or other heavy industrial project experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of the site contractor health and safety management system for underground and project-related work.
  • Support capital projects, underground development, shutdowns, and major maintenance activities by integrating health and safety requirements into project planning, scheduling, and execution.
  • Manage contractor prequalification, selection, and onboarding processes to ensure contractors meet site safety, competency, and regulatory requirements prior to mobilization.
  • Review, approve, and verify contractor safety documentation, including safety plans, risk assessments, JHAs, work procedures, and training records.
  • Establish clear contractor performance expectations, metrics, and reporting requirements aligned with company standards and contractual obligations.
  • Monitor contractor safety performance through inspections, audits, field observations, and trend analysis of leading and lagging indicators.
  • Hold contractors accountable for compliance through formal feedback, corrective action tracking, escalation processes, and participation in contractor performance reviews.
  • Exercise stop-work authority and support enforcement actions when unsafe conditions, non-compliance, or repeated performance issues are identified.
  • Serve as a technical advisor to site and project leadership on underground health and safety risks, controls, and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with Senior Safety and Health professionals, Project Managers, and Operations leaders to develop and implement strategies that mitigate hazards and address complex underground and project-related safety challenges.
  • Execute and support the site Health & Safety Strategy across all underground operations, project areas, and associated facilities.
  • Develop, maintain, and communicate H&S policies, procedures, standards, and contractor requirements to ensure compliance with MSHA regulations and company expectations.
  • Conduct underground workplace inspections, audits, and risk assessments covering both operational and project work areas; verify completion and effectiveness of corrective actions.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and training to supervisors, crews, and contractors to reinforce safe work practices and strengthen safety leadership.
  • Participate in incident investigations, root-cause analyses, and corrective action development for employee and contractor-related incidents.
  • Track, verify, and close corrective actions, ensuring lessons learned are communicated and incorporated into future project planning.
  • Support underground emergency preparedness, response planning, drills, and contractor integration into site emergency response and mine rescue programs.
  • Maintain accurate health and safety documentation, contractor records, and compliance reports in accordance with MSHA requirements and company standards.
  • Prepare and present contractor safety performance summaries, trends, and risk profiles to site and project leadership.
