About The Position

Under general supervision, monitors and operates the city's treatment processes and distribution system to ensure compliance with regulations and operational goals. Essential Job Functions: Responsible for monitoring the treatment and distribution system and make adjustments to ensure compliance with regulations and operational goals including observation, analysis and troubleshooting of equipment and processes, laboratory analyses, enhancing databases, and developing and generating reports. Will operate and coordinate the operation of treatment and distribution systems utilizing plant computer systems, manual control systems and equipment, and work in a safe manner using all required safety equipment. Responsible for understanding technical literature, water treatment practices and department practices and procedures. Will maintain instrument and mechanical systems by inspecting, calibrating, and repairing instrumentation, maintaining databases, and maintaining treatment optimization programs. Other Job Functions: Will perform administrative duties including training personnel, work order management, planning and optimizing plant processes. Will perform maintenance of equipment and facilities including the ability to communicate the status of equipment and processes to others. Able to complete purchase requisitions for chemicals and other materials and receive chemical shipments and other supplies. Will assist in responses to customer requests and conduct special projects and studies for management as requested. Will use the computerized maintenance management system

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Water Utilities operations, policies, procedures and ordinances.
  • Knowledge of water treatment processes and regulations.
  • Knowledge of basic water chemistry and biology.
  • Knowledge of advanced math.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and equipment.
  • Knowledge of function of tools.
  • Knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical principles.
  • Skill in using word processing, database, work management, SCADA and spreadsheet software.
  • Skill in reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
  • Skill in communicating policies and procedures.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to organize tasks.
  • Ability to work in an indoor/outdoor environment.
  • Ability to lift or exert forces equivalent to lifting up to 80 pounds.
  • Ability to operate a variety of equipment including, but not limited to a PC, fax machine, radio, laboratory equipment, hand tools, plant process equipment, power tools, instrumentation, calculator and copier.
  • Ability to perform a variety of physical skills including, but not limited to carrying, climbing, dragging, driving, filing, holding, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, seeing, sitting, sorting, squatting, standing, stooping, typing, walking and writing.
  • Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and make fine discriminations in sound.
  • Two years (60 hours) of general college courses including Math, Science, Computer Science, or Engineering.
  • One year operational experience in water treatment
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License, Class C.
  • Possession of a current grade "C" water certificate from TCEQ.
