About The Position

As a Traveling Garage Technician, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting SMT’s tracking and telemetry systems on IndyCars during race weekends and testing sessions. You will team up with the Technical Production Manager while on-site to assist in resolving motorsports teams’ issues as they arise during race weekends. You will also work with IndyCar and Team personnel to ensure data is being received as expected. When not working in the garage, you will help the on-site crew throughout race weekends. This job requires domestic travel throughout the motorsports season, running from February to September.

Requirements

  • Strong troubleshooting skills and proficiency with hand tools and cabling.
  • Ability to work in high-pressure, fast-paced environments.
  • Physical capability to lift equipment and work in confined spaces.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Previous motorsports or broadcast technology experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of RF systems and wireless data transmission preferred.
  • Technical certifications in electronics or related fields.

Responsibilities

  • Installing hardware, sensors, GPS modules, antennas, and wiring on IndyCars.
  • Diagnosing and resolving hardware or connectivity issues quickly under time constraints.
  • Providing on-site technical support during practice, qualifying, and race sessions.
  • Performing system checks, calibration, and troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance; Perform preventative maintenance
  • Documenting service actions, technical issues, and performance metrics after each event.
